Grade 7 | Computer Fundamentals
A.Y. 2019-2020
COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this introductory course, students will become familiar with the history and principles of a personal computer including the internal hardware, the operating system and
software applications. Students will gain knowledge on computer system rchitecture and in using key applications such as word processors, spreadsheets, and presentation software. In
the first quarter, the focus is on the history of computing, understanding the basic roles and responsibilities of the software, hardware, and operating system. In the second quarter, the
emphasis is on understanding how computers commuincate to each other and how information is processed using various number systems. The last 2 quarters are designed to provide
a key introduction to the essentials of software programming. It is the students’ first step into logical computing. Course content will focus in C++ and Program Delevelopment Life
Cycle in the context of software practices. Students will experience how to create basic C++ programs, including control structures, apply basic input/output streams and
understanding functions for efficiency.
Prior to attending this course, students should be familiar with using personal computers with a mouse and keyboard and possess basic typing skills. Students should be able to
launch and close programs; navigate to information stored on the computer; and manage files and folders. Familiarity with Disk Operating System or DOS would be an advantage. A
general understanding or interest on program design could enhance the participant’s experience.
Through this course, students should learn the history of computing how programs are made. They should be knowledgeable about the basic information processing skills with
Windows applications. The course aims to help students to use computer applications for more efficient academic work. The third and fourth quarter aims to teach the students the
basics of C++ and program development. Moreover, the prepared course aims to emphasize the importance of the logic and computing as a tool to make proficient processes. Students
should understand the principles of creating effective software and an in-depth consideration of computer system architecture.
