A Real Disciple

1 John 2:3-11

We show we know God when we do what He says.

1. A Real Disciple Lives like Jesus (v3-6)

John is saying that we can know that we really know God through our desire to grow
in obedience to Him. John says that when we obey God, His love accomplishes its
purpose in us. John writes that we can know that we are in Christ, if we walk as He
walked.

The test of whether or not we know God has more to do with our behavior than with
our beliefs. The face of real Christianity is marked by a life of obedience. It is
easy to claim that we are a Christian; the true test is whether our lives actually
reflects Jesus.

2. A Real Disciple Loves like Jesus (v7-11)

John reminds the believers that you cant harbor hatred against a fellow believer.
And tells them that when they show their love they will live in the light.

We are either actively loving a person or we hate them. To act indifferently toward
someone, to turn the other way when you see them coming, to behave like they dont
matter is the same thing as hating them.
When we truly love we wont be doing things that trip others up. Love is our
greatest testimony to the world.
