THE ALPHABET IN MY TOWN BAUANG

“Bauang, O ili nga ilalaen, natubay yuyeng nalinac a baybay, karayan, turturod ingget

lasbang, pagtaudan parabor inkam ninanam”, this is a line in Bauang hymn in which I sang many

times. I love everything belongs my hometown where I was born and grew in 17 years. Also love

friendly people, too. Come with me and let us explore the alphabet of my hometown Bauang in

39 barangays.

Acao is an eastern part of bauang were kaykayo resort located and accessible from the

town proper of Bauang is this eco-tourism site. This is another relaxing and tranquil part of the

town where you can enjoy the beautiful hilltop mountain resort and be with nature.

Bridge is the longest railway in la union that is built over Bauang river. I ride a tricycle

going to Bawanta and Ballay to see their biggest exotic flower known as “Rafflesia”. Then, I went

to Baccuit Norte and Sur and I see a lot of beaches like San Luis Del Mar, Eva Resorts, Alekins,

Aloha, Marand Beach and Resort, Priscilla, Jessica’s Beach and La Fayette are very nice resorts

to visit. Going southern part of Bauang, Boy-utan is a small barangay but you can get here plenty

of ube, avocado and the Ilocano food known as “karot”.

Creating and planning a weekend getaway up north but do not want to join thousands of

tourists driving up to Baguio to beat the summer heat, you might want to consider going to La

Union, particularly the urbanized municipality of Bauang. Also called the fruit basket of the north

with its grape farms, this town can be enjoyed even for a day trip. It is also a place where one can

take pictures of a beautiful sunset.

Delicacies in my hometown were many tourists are always there to visit.

Erected canonically on April 25, 1587, Saints Peter and Paul Church is one of the oldest

church in the Philippines. It was damaged in 1892 during an earthquake but was restored after

three years. It was built at Barangay Central East, Bauang, La Union.

For visiting the municipal office located at Central West, I personally meet our beloved

mayor Hon. Menchie L. De Guzman and other officials.

God is truly shower blessings in my town Bauang as I remember also the line “Itan-ok

daka O ili a Bauang, Sikat Taklen, Bagnus ken dardarepdepmi”, it means everything in my town

is much better than others.

Happy to see myself in this town. I went also to the mountainous part of Bauang, the Sta.

Monica and Cabalayangan were you can find rabong (bamboo shoots) and oong (mushrooms).

I want to experience fruit picking, I guess, I’m in the right place. Barangay Bagbag,

Urayong and Santiago also had a great impact to my hometown were grapes and guava fruits are

located. These grape farms are open to guests for free. Here, you get to pick your own grapes

from vines that can reach up to six feet. With clippers and a basket, you can harvest your own

and just need to pay after the grapes are weighed.

Jamming in the town of Bauang is quite glamour, just visit Pugo Blu Water Resort and

Taberna Resorts.

“Keep Calm and Here I come!”, I was able to visit also as our outgoing Mayor Martin

conceived Project Bakawan as an eco-tourism mangrove park, situated with different species of

mangrove at Barangay Pudoc and Parian.

Lower San Agustin have lots of lomboy (blackberry) as well as Cabisilan, Carmay and

Palintucang. I visit these places during summer.

Manuel E. Arguilla, the best and legendary English writer and he is known for his widely

anthologized short story "How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife," the main story in the

collection How My Brother Leon Brought Home a Wife and Other Short Stories, which won first

prize in the Commonwealth Literary Contest in 1940. His ancestral house found at Nagrebcan.

Nothing much to say but “Ay-ayatek O ili a Bauang” and I love the innovative trend in my

town especially those people who have smile in their faces.

On my way home, I want to eat something special food so, I started to check my google

map and try to look for a place in my hometown for it.
