My Reflections/
My Insights

Am I really prepared to teach?

To direct. To inspire. To change someone’s life. Needless to say,
being a teacher is one of the most inspiring professions in this world.
However, it is also a complicated and demanding job. It needs dedication.
It needs hard work. Thus, every aspirant would come asking “Am I ready for
this? Am I ready to teach?”
This question kept ringing on my head during our last semester in
DNSC. When we first wore our OJT uniform, we felt that the day we are
going to handle a real class and face the challenges of a real teacher is
about to come. The feeling actually is unexplainable. When we had our
series of induction activities, I had jitters. I was nervous. I felt I wanted to
back out and have some time to think. Nonetheless, I can’t do that, I’m
already here, I have to finish what I have started. Even though I was in the
state of bewilderment, I was inspired to become a teacher. The inspirational
words I earned from my mentors motivated me to become a ‘potter’ of the
students’ life. None of our mentors told us that to be a teacher is easy but
all of them said that it is a wonderful thing to become one. Thus, when I ask
myself “Am I ready to teach?” I said “Yes, I am, I have to be ready”. I know
at the end of the road, I would end up being joyful of the tract I have chosen.
The experiences, lessons, and inspirational words our instructors, professors,
and mentors taught us are already enough for me to go on and accept the
challenge. I was also inspired by a poem written for teachers:
God Made Teachers
God understood our thirst for Knowledge,
And Our Need To Be Led By someone wiser;
He needed a heart of compassion, Of encouragement, and
patience;
Someone who would accept
The Challenge Regardless Of The Opposition;
Someone who could see potential
And believe in the best in others . . .
So he made teachers
- Author Unknown
Truly, God made teachers and I am ready to become one.
