Sample Answer:

Based on the novel Captain Nobody by Dean Pitchford, Newton Newman who is the main character
of the novel has faced a lot of obstacles and challenges in life. Yet, the one problem that seems big and
most challenging to him is a timid person. This novel is about a nine-year-old boy who transforms from zero
to hero through a series of heroic episodes throughout the novel.

Firstly, Captain Nobody faced his timidity when he helped Cecil to retrieve the Big Bass Drum from
the top of the dumpster. When Cecil summoned him through the walkie-talkie, Newt was reluctant to help
because he was petrified of height. However, Cecil convinced Newt that only Captain Nobody can do this
job because he is fearless. So Newt bravely climbed up to the top of the dumpster and passed down the
drum to Cecil. In the end, Cecil was so happy to finally own a drum. From this event, I like how Newton
Newman face his problem in fulfilling his best friend’s wish as Newt shows to everyone that our inability
can turn into a capability if we are determined to face it.

Next, Captain Nobody needed to face his problem of timidity when he helped JJ to talk to Mr and
Mrs Sullivan. Initially, Newton Newman had no confidence talking to strangers. JJ was actually distressed by
grammar mistakes on the sign of the Sullivan’s Jewellery store. She insisted that Captain Nobody could
make a difference if he went to talk to the Sullivans after she was ignored by them. Feeling obliged as a
superhero, Captain Nobody stepped into the store. He gathered his courage and managed to tell the couple
about all the grammar mistakes on the signs. As he was talking, he realised that he was interrupting an
armed robbery and as a result Mr. Sullivan managed to pull the alarm. In my opinion, it was very brave of
Newton Newman as Captain Nobody faced his problem talking to strangers.
