Free Vibration
Free vibration of a system means that the system vibrates at its natural frequency. It's the
opposite of forced vibration. Free vibration can be damped or undamped.
Free vibrations are those in which no external driving forces exist. If you deflect some elastic
body and then let go of it, like a guitar string, then its subsequent motion is a free vibration. [1]
Natural Frequency
The frequency or frequencies at which an object tends to vibrate with when hit, struck, plucked,
strummed or somehow disturbed is known as the natural frequency of the object. [2]
