Hello, my name is Maria and my speech is about the scouts.

I’m going to talk about the

scouting, the origin, the promise and laws, my scout group and my experience.

Firstly, I would like to explain you what scouting is. It is a movement for children and
young people with the aim of teaching them some essential principles and values for
life such as survival skills, protecting the nature or helping people, which will help us
to be the best version of ourselves.

Secondly, I’m going to explain how it appeared and who created it. It was born in
1907 as a way to face the crime in England trying to turn the criminals into good
citizens. The founder was Baden Powell, mostly well-known as BP who wrote
Scouting for Boys: A Handbook for Instruction in Good Citizenship, inspired in his
life, which contains the essential laws and principles of the scouting. At first, it was
just for boys so, a few years later, in 1910 a new organization called the girl Guides
was created.

Finally, the neckerchief whichis the symbol of having made a promise in which you
pledge to help the others in any circumstancs and to obey loyally the scout law,
which is the group of values in which scouting is based. That promise is forever and
when you make it, you should greet other scouts like this. It means God, Homeland,
Neighbour and the strongest protects the weakest. The fleur de lis is the symbol of
the scouting.
The neckerchief is peculiar in each scout group, for example, mine is white and dark
blue, the white means purity and the blue horizon.

Now, I’m going to talk about my experience. My scout group is Grup Scout San
Jaume in Moncada. It was created in 1962 and is one of the biggest in the Valencian
Community. The group is separated in five sections. Depending on the age, each
section has a value, the youngest are the beavers whose slogan is sharing, the wolf
cubs do the best, the scout section is ready, the esculta is joining together and the
oldest are the rovers whose slogan is serving the others.

I have been going to the scouts since I was 6 years old and now I’m in the esculta
section, which is for people between fifteen and sixteen years old. Every Saturday
we meet for two hours to play or do anyother activities. Each year we do at least two
short camps of a weekend and later in summer a longer one of two weeks.
I love being part of the scouts because I have met a lot of people, learnt a lot of
important things and the best of everything is the summer camp where you
disconnect from technology, so the only aspects that matter are having fun and
enjoying every single moment.

That’s the end of my speech, I hope you have enjoyed it and thank you for your
attention.
