in the next 20 years. The airport is
planning to build eight additional hangars
for jets and planes near Clairmont Road.
The plans affect both Chamblee and
Brookhaven, with residents voicing noise
and air quality concerns at recent city
council meetings. The eight hangars─part
of the expansion─would require an
additional 19 acres for PDK.
PDK would have to cut down an
estimated 260 trees for the pending
expansion. PDK plans to replant trees to
replace those being cut down.
According to Chamblee Mayor Eric
Clarkson, the airport does not need the
city council’s permission to build the
hangars or expand. The city council is only
voting to approve the appearance of the
hangars.
During the June 18 Chamblee city
council meeting, the council voted to
postpone the vote for the design plans.
According to the council, the additional
month will give PDK officials time to
communicate with residents about the
expansion and noise concerns.
Chamblee’s next city council meeting
is July 16 at 7:30 p.m.
