Operating income amounted to €750,938 thousand, €60,625
thousand over budget. All revenue items were higher than
budgeted, by a total of €19.5 million. In addition, sports
achievements in the season resulted in higher income of €41.1
million. The Club won four football (Champions League, FIFA
Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Supercup) and
two basketball (Euroleague and Spanish Liga ACB) trophies.

Personnel expenses increased by €45,729 thousand. Bonuses


paid for sports achievements increased by €50.6 million, while the
amount paid for other items of personnel expenses decreased by
€4.9 million.

Operating expenses and supplies increased by €19,815


thousand. There was an increase in expenditure of €10.3 million
arising from higher income in various business lines, while sports
achievements drove a €9.5 million increase in expenses.

Meanwhile, there was an increase in expenditure of €6,940


thousand for the higher provision charge for risks and
contingencies.

Gains on disposals of non-current assets outstripped the budget


by €5,847 thousand as a result of higher-than-expected gains on
player transfers.

Depreciation and amortization, and finance costs were slightly


lower than budgeted.

In all, the 2017/18 budget out-turn included profit before tax of


€42,983 thousand, €5,593 thousand less than budgeted for the
reasons explained previously.
