The Demotion Party meeting was
called to order by Master of
Ceremonies Rich Render, and
the Greeter/Invocator, Roger
Gregory, read an Old Irish
Blessing, and led the Pledge to
the Flag.
There were several guests today:
Yelena Mucovich, Jan Gregory,
Leslie Lynch, Joyce Ellenberg,
Jayne Zhai, Libby Schoemehl, &
PP Dianne Wilson & Pres. Ron
M/C Rich acknowledged the past
Rotary service of Club members
Cliff Dochterman, Past Rotary
International President (’92-93)
and Jim Campbell, Past District
Governor (‘08’-’09). He
introduced and welcomed
incoming District Governor Tina
Atkins (Concord Rotary), and
mentioned that DG Jon Dwyer
would have attended if he was not
being demoted at the same time.
We were all very happy to see Al
Simonsen and Marv Ellenberg,
attending despite health issues.

~~THE DEMOTION OF
PRESIDENT RON ~~
We were favored by a visiting
troupe of highly experienced
thespians, the Dochterman
Players, a group that didn’t make
the cut at Riverdance. These
players were Gary Irwin, Debbie
Koo, Angelo Costanza, Debbie
Roessler, and Dianne Wilson,
and written, directed, and narrated
by himself, Clifford Dochterman,
that man of many talents.
The play was “Moraga Rotary
Emmy Awards”, where awards
for “Hiding in the Closet”, “The
Good Neighbor”, “Not Afraid of
Unabomber”, “Playground
Beautification”, and ‘Service
above Self” were awarded not to
the favorite, Brad Pitt, but to our
own Ron Mucovich. However,
the “Using the Serbian Church
Again” award went to the
overwhelming favorite, Yelena
Mucovich, who beat out Julia
Child.
In presenting the Service Above
Self award, Past President
Dianne Wilson listed the many
accomplishments of our Club
during Ron’s year and under his
leadership, as well as the projects
that are expected to continue to
success in 2019 or soon after.
She presented the Moraga Rotary
Past President’s Plaque to Ron to
the cheers of the assembled
throng.
Ron then reviewed the
accomplishments of the Club
during his year, such as the
completion of the architectural
stone façade on the wall at the All-
Access Playground, the plans to
wrap up the Sierra Leone
Orphanage project, and the
continuation of the Congo Library
Project, and our support of MEF,
Shelter Inc., Camp Royal, the
three scholarships, and the
Paradise Fire disaster.
He then thanked his Board of
Directors and gave each one a
Rotary Conference carry bag.

Cliff Dochterman at 61. The pin
manufacturers stop at 60 years, so
Cliff got a 60 year pin and a 1 year

Moraga Rotarian of the Year Frank May

~ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR~
Cliff Dochterman, originator and
sponsor of the Moraga Rotarian of
the Year Award, announced that
after a vote of all members, this
year’s Award goes to Frank May!
For the second time! Frank has
served the Club in many roles this
year, most notably the Chairman
for the past two years of our major
fundraiser, but also as Newsletter
Editor Chairman, and our unofficial
tech support who helps our
speaker of the day to connect his
A/V to the MCC antiquated
system.
He also works on most of our
projects, and is always willing to
work with members who have
Microsoft problems on their aging
PC systems.
~~WELCOME STEPHANIE
DICKERSON~~
Stephanie Dickerson was
inducted into the Club by Cliff
Dochterman, who has probably
set a Rotary record for this duty.
He noted that Stephanie has now
made friends of not just Moraga
Rotarians, but the rest of the 1.2
million Rotarians around the world.
Evie, new member Stephanie Dickerson,
Debbie K, and Cliff
She and Jennifer Brophy were
given copies of Cliff’s latest book
of wise speeches, plus the latest
edition of “The ABCs of Rotary”,
which he started.
Stephanie has already
commenced working with Debbie
Koo on a District Grant for
communication devices for
teachers and administrators in the
Moraga School District. Jennifer
has agreed to be Webmaster for
the Club.
THE EVIE/DEBBIE REGIME
Incoming Co-President Debbie
Koo announced the Board of
Directors for the 2019-2020
year, which are listed later in this
newsletter. Strangely enough,
they look a lot like the Board from
last year. Debbie will lead the
Club’s effort in International
Service, including the completion
of our Sierra Leone effort
projected for early fall, under
Dianne Wilson. Debbie will lead
the effort to build the Lumumba
Library in the Congo. Evie will
focus on local community service,
with emphasis on literacy.
~~BANNER DEMOTION~~
Through President Ron’s year,
Moraga Rotary has displayed the
traveling banner of “The Cliff
Dochterman Award” for the
Outstanding Club in the District
for the 2017-2018 year. We will
now display our permanent banner
for this award, having given the
traveling banner to incoming DG
Tina Atkins to present to the
winning Club for 2018-2019.
