2i. Visit a public space that is connected to your issue. Take your notebook with you.

Meander through the space for at least an hour (or situate yourself somewhere you can
watch from for the whole hour). Observe the people you see and, in your notes,
describe (using sensory details) what you’re seeing and what is going on. Make your
description as creative (while maintaining accuracy) and as lively as possible,
encompassing the entire essence of the space within one good, descriptive paragraph.

One of the most talked about places that have to do with my issue of Abortion, is
Planned Parenthood. People are under the assumption that is the only thing that you
can receive there, little do some of them know Planned Parenthood offers many
different health related services. They offer birth control, men’s health services,
pregnancy testing and services, STD testing, treatment, and vaccines, women’s
services, general health care, abortion services, LGBT services, and abortion referral
and services. I myself have gone to Planned Parenthood for a few years now for
general healthcare checkups because I started going there before I had health
insurance. It was affordable and the only option I had at the time. I went for a checkup
recently and like every time I go, I see all different kinds of people. I saw two men there
that came separately and, in a room, full of women, they seemed like they were feeling
very out of place. They sat on their phones the whole time until it was their time to go
back. There was a woman with two little kids under the age of I’d assume 5, who was
incredibly pregnant. She appeared to be about 6 or 7 months and she and her kids
played and talked over in the corner until it was her time to go back. When her name
was called all three of them went back together. And throughout the hour and a half that
I waited for my appointment, there were six different young adult women there by
themselves. Each one of us sitting on our phones in silence until we were called back.
Every time I am there, I see probably at least 10 people or more waiting for their
appointments. Different genders, different ages, different lifestyles and different reasons
for being there. Although it is a common mistake that they only provide abortions there,
they’re some peoples main source of healthcare and they go there for annual checkups,
to make sure they’re healthy. And if you find out you’re not 100% healthy and you need
to be seen for something that they don’t offer, Planned Parenthood does a great job at
explaining things to you, helping you figure out where to go next, and giving you
resources and referrals for providers and financial assistance.
