Defined as an increase in total body fat, or at least a 20% increase in one's ideal
body weight. Obesity has increased in frequency in the last 20 years and it is
estimated 33% of Americans are obese. One calculation of obesity is the body mass
index or BMI. To calculate the BMI, people take their weight in pounds and multiplies
it by 705, then divides this number by their height in inches, then divides this number
again by their height in inches. The US Department of Health and Human Services
provides a BMI calculator at http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/. A normal BMI = 18.5-
24.9; overweight = 25.0-29.9; obese = 30 or greater; and morbidly obese = 40 or
greater. Obesity is the second leading cause of preventable death (after smoking),
and is associated with type 2 diabetes, elevated cholesterol, heart disease, arthritis,
gallstones, obstructive sleep apnea, and cancer. There are many causes of obesity
from genetic to environmental factors, and certain conditions including Cushing's
syndrome, hypothyroidism and medications, such as steroids, can cause obesity. In
the great majority of cases no secondary cause is determined.

2.1 Causes Of symptoms

Obesity can be defined as someone who has excess weight . In other words , obesity
is a body which is not ideal with height . At the time of the industrial revolution is
booming with growing like mushrooms after rain , more and more teens are facing
the obesity problem . Most adolescents in contemporary times less maintain their
form or physical body . This phenomenon occurs because teenagers like to eat fast
food high in calories . Teens consider that obesity as a normal phenomenon . The
proof , the National Heart Institute ( IJN ) in his study in 2007 reported that 60 percent
of teens have been diagnosed with heart disease in that year . Actually, each
individual must uphold and practice the motto that reads body healthy , intelligent
brain .

The cause of obesity among adolescents continues to spread at this time is the teens
are not practicing a balanced diet. At the time of the industrial revolution, many
companies are high-calorie fast food and high fat. For working parents, they are
happy and pleased with the development of industrial fast food because they do not
have time to prepare food for children because of race each other to work. So,
children are provided with fast food like sausages, nuggets, burgers and so on. This
scenario can be proved when the lecturer of Food and Health Unit University of
Malaya has made a census of the daily diet for teenagers. As a result, as many as 70
percent of teens whose parents work had to eat fast food as daily food. It is clear that
parents in this age prefer other things than his own son in the forest like a monkey
children breastfed, kelaparan.Seterusnya dead children at home, teens today are not
eating a balanced diet has menatijahkan obesity among them.

Other causes of obesity among adolescents now is that they do not play sports and
recreational activities. This phenomenon occurs because they are preoccupied with
entertainment from television and radio funnels , more comfortable sleep even their
own lazy attitude to sports or recreational activities. Teenagers are lazy do not like
sports or socializing with people outside . Teens prefer activities that do not directly
benefit . The proof , we often see young people today are more likely to hang out ,
smoke , roaming and so on . They were loitering there and here as there is no
objective way . This attitude would not bring awareness to the youth to take care of
themselves . In short, it is clear that teenagers are less fond of sports and
recreational activities have contributed to the obesity problem plaguing Malaysia in
this new millennium .

5
Another cause of the outbreak of the epidemic of obesity among adolescents also
was the character of their own. Adolescent attitude that no establishment and loves
affected causing them like junk food. Not only that, teenagers also have no
knowledge about the implications of that will be faced by them if too many foods high
in fat and calories that will eventually invite obesity. They too follow passion. When
fast food manufacturers create new products, they will advertise the product to the
public. This has caused a teenager influenced by advertisements that wonderful
news from art. Psychology Unit of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia have indicated
that teens are now less awareness of their own health. In short, their own attitude will
invite obesity.

Obesity among adolescents is also due to the attitude of parents who care about
their children's nutrition. Parents pamper the kids like balancing oil filled up according
to their index. When children want to eat anything, parents should give even the food
is not nutritious and less in line with the growth of their children. Parents will fulfill the
wishes of children who want fast food as found in Restoren McDonald, Pizza, KFC
and many others. Health Unit of Hospital Universiti Malaya has conducted research
on fried chicken at KFC chicken that contain high salt, high fat and high calorie invite
inviting only obesity but also invite other chronic diseases. The conclusion, obesity
among adolescents was derived from parental attitudes are less keep feeding their
children from a young age.

have been found to be effective. They are usually reserved for those patients with
BMIs greater than 40, or for those with a BMI between 35-40 and with a co-existing
obesity related medical problem such as diabetes.

Some of the causes that have been discussed to trigger obesity in our country . This
problem is serious and worrying all parties . Therefore , parents should encourage
