Annotated Bibliography

In my essay, I will explore the impacts and solutions to climate change. I will look at how

change is being implemented and what renewable energy holds for the future. This will

include what will happen if we don’t change our wasteful habits. This will help answer,

how will renewable energy impact our society? Also, what kind of renewable energy will

impact our society the most and immediately replace fossil fuels?

The Authors of “Environment Impact of a Concentrated Solar Plant” are Mladen Bosnjakovic

and Vlado Tadijanovic appearing in the Technical Journal. The main point of this journal

published in Mar. of 2019 is to explain the impacts of a concentrated solar plant. Solar

plants take up more land than people think but that is the cost of reducing CO2. Water is

needed to cool down the plant like any other source and given off as steam. A majority of

water is returned back into the environment. The creation of solar plant takes lots of CO2
to produce but this outweighs the short term cons. There are leakages with these new

plants into the soil that are working on being fixed mainly in California and Spain.

The purpose of writing this article is to explain the pros and cons of solar plants. The journal

piece tells the effects of the plant on different topics. The audience for this piece is people

who want to be informed on what this new type of plant entails. With this source being

written in 2019 the authors gravitate toward giving the idea of solar plants a more

positive look since climate change is such a big issue.

Mladen Bosnjakovic and Vlado Tadijanovic are both credible authors who are heads of college

departments. They do research in thermal science and renewable energy sources. The

source is from a reliable site called Ebscohost.

I will use the information from this journal to explain how the benefits long term outweigh the

costs. I will be able to explain the impacts on land use, air and water quality. This will

help support my stance toward the benefits renewable energy can have on society.

DW Documentary. “Solar energy in Morocco”. 15 January 2019,

JVi3DRGYI

The author of “Solar energy in Morocco” is DW Documentary which appeared in January of this

year. This short Documentary’s main point is to show the energy of solar power in

Morocco. In this documentary a growing team of a small solar panel company travel to

villages in the mountains of Morocco. Without solar energy, these people would having

nothing more than fire on the mountainside. A massive solar plant in Morocco accounts
for 40% of all the countries energy and is planning to increase that number. Morocco

isn’t abundant in non-renewable resources, so this is will become the main power source.

The purpose of this article is to show how the poor people on the mountainsides of Morocco are

provided with power. This attracts an audience who wants to know what the best way to

provide energy to struggling or poor areas is. This being shot in Morocco shows how

some impoverished live and how we can solve the energy problem for them.

DW documentary is an overseas documentary that has been filming since 1992. It has been

running for a while out of Berlin. This source has been around and is a certified news

source. They provide news in 30 languages to different countries.

I will use this information show how the use of solar energy can affect the society. This will help

me explain the benefits and how it can impact people of all social classes.

Gerretsen, Isabelle. “Climate change is seriously threatening human health”. CNN, 4 June 2019,

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/04/health/climate-change-threatening-human-health-scli-

intl/index.html.

This article “Climate change is seriously threatening human health” is written by Isabelle

Gerretsen from CNN on June 4th 2019. The main point is to explain the health effects of

climate change. The health effects talked about are mental health, physical health, and

mosquito borne diseases. Extreme heat and other dieses will begin to occur preventing

people from working. Solving the problem will save lives and resources.

The purpose of writing this article is to inform the audience of health effects climate change can

bring. It will most likely attract an audience interested in effects of climate change if we
do nothing. The picture in the beginning of the articles sets the stage basically implying

the poor will be affected first.

Isabelle Gerretsen is CNN reporter who covers climate change. She is credible because she

covers climate and the environment. This is what she in turn writes her articles on.

I will use this information to explain the future impacts if we don’t stop emitting carbon. This

will help back my stance on how people will be impacted without the use of renewable

resources.

know-about-the-new-u-s-climate-assessment

“New U.S. Climate Assessment Forecasts Dire Effects on Economy, Health” is by Jennifer

Luden and Chris Joyce. This is from National Public Radio published on the 26th of

November 2018. The main point is to explain the effects of climate change economically

and on health. With climate change continuing into the future more environmental

catastrophes will occur. There will be more hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, etc. This will

cost billions more than it already does to clean up. Diseases will expand with bugs

because of increased temperature. The infrastructure of today’s building, bridges, etc. are

not built to withstand change that will occur in the future.

The writer’s purpose in this article is to describe the impacts of climate change for future

generations. This was written to warn people of the path that we are going down. With
this being written last fall, it fits the time frame of Climate change becoming largely

talked about topic.

Jennifer Luden and Chris Joyce both work for NPR and are environment editors and

correspondent of science desk. This is radio news streamed to millions every day, so they

have to be trusted with what they put out. Both authors are qualified under their job titles.

I will use this article to explain the economic impacts of climate change, along with future

effects. This will back up my position on why we need to take immediate action.

NASA. “Global Climate Change Vital Signs of the Planet”. 26 June 2019,

https://climate.nasa.gov/effects/. https://climate.nasa.gov/effects/

“Global Climate Change Vital Signs of the Planet” is an article written up by scientists working

for NASA, written on the 26th of June 2019. The main point of the article is show the

future effects of climate change. Climate change is visible in many habitats. Sea levels

rise as ice melts, and more intense heat waves role through. Most impacts with increased

heat are harmful along with economic impacts. The audience is anyone who wants to be

informed. It was written based off views from space, which gives you an entire overview.

NASA has always been a reliable source when it comes to science and space. The scientists that

work for them are top level. This is on NASA site so you expect the information to be

well presented. This has always been a credible source based on their science

background.

The purpose of this article is to explain how temperature increase effects the environment and

the economic effects that follow.

This article will help further enforce the economic and environmental impacts of climate change.

I will also be able to inform people what climate change is currently doing

https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/energy/reference/renewable-energy/

“Renewable Energy 101” is an article written by Christina Nunez on National Geographic’s site

on January 30th 2019. The main point of the article is to inform you of all the types of renewable

energy. Hydropower is the most used renewable source of energy. The others that contribute are

wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass. Solar, wind, Geothermal, and biomass are just in the

beginning stages. There will be large increases in the use of these.

The purpose of this article is to explain the different types of renewable resources. The audience

being reached out to is those who want to know what those forms are. This piece is written

during a time when climate change is a growing issue so it will attract a larger audience.

Christina Nunez is a writer for National Geographic who covers energy. Therefore, what she

talked about is credible. National Geographic is a reliable source for science and the

environment.

I will use this article to explain how different type’s energy will impact society. It will give me a

better understanding of how solar energy can be used.

“Going 'Zero Carbon' Is All The Rage. But Will It Slow Climate Change?” is an article from

NPR, written by Nathan Rott and published June 18th 2019. The main point of the article

is how to we are turning around carbon emissions. Not everyone is on board or believes

we can reduce carbon emissions. 4 states Hawaii, California, Washington and New Mexico

will do their part. Carbon emissions need to drop sharply within the decade. The reports

want places to drop to 0 around the year 2050.

The purpose of this article is to show goals of where we need to be. It reaches out to the audience

of those who may not believe or need proof. When individual states make pledges, other

states could be tempted to follow.

Nathan Rott is the national desk correspondent for NPR. He focuses on environment issues and

the American west. This would qualify him to talk about the issues in this article. This is

radio news streamed to millions every day, so they have to be trusted with what they put

out.

I will use this article to explain what could be if we erase our carbon footprint. The information

will help me explain what the future without carbon could look like.
