Today in class I had the opportunity to run a lesson that was made by Greg with Omar. I
felt that went pretty smoothly, and it was nice to get some more practice leading a class before
Patrick and I teach the lesson that we planned next week. I got some very helpful advice from
Greg about some mannerisms that I have like, using words that unnecessary and just generally
flailing my arms around, both being distractions to the students when trying to explain
instructions to them. Greg also gave some general suggestions about running a classroom like
making sure to go to different edges of a group when the students are doing group work.
I also had the change today to sit in during ENCA, the English Café club, which was very
interesting to see how it was run. In ENCA Greg records the students as they ask him a question
that they prepared before coming to the club meeting. One of the questions today was about what
our dream was when we were younger, and it sparked a really interesting conversation with the
students about what they are interested in and what they want to do.
I feel that these first three weeks of the program have absolutely flown by and it’s really
hard to believe that we are about halfway done. I don’t want to think about it. However, because
we are halfway done I need to work harder in order to be able to talk to even more of the
students and make sure that they get the most they can out of the KU students and I being here.
