VI. Rationale
One of the major concerns of the School paper advisers and
campus journalists is the lack of training and exposure to the rudiments
of Campus Journalism. Such concern, though not fully representative of
the plight of campus journalism in the country, indicates that there is a
growing concern in terms of the quality and efficient campus writers
produced. In the late 90’s government tried responding to such concern
thru the passage of Campus Journalism Act of 1991 and its
implementing guidelines; however the law itself including the
traditional district, division, regional and national competitions are not
enough to address all the needed skills of the campus journalists. Also,
some of the topics offered in such conference do not completely reflect
the realities of the upgrading world of campus journalism.
