TOPIC / LESSON NAME Functions and their graphs

CONTENT STANDARDS The Learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of functions.

The Learner Is able to accurately construct mathematical models to represent real life situations
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
using functions.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES Represent real life situations using functions, including piece wise functions.
SPECIFIC LEARNING The students will Identify functions and relate into real life situations.
OUTCOMES
TIME ALLOTMENT 1 hour

LESSON OUTLINE:
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson the learner will have been able to:
a. identify and illustrate functions using ordered pairs, table of values and graphs.
b. present real life situations using functions with input and output.
c. appreciate the topic and cooperate

1. Introduction/Review: The students will understand the study of sets.

2. Motivation: The students will sing function Song to the tune of magtanim ay di biro
3. Instruction/Delivery: The students will answer the questions
4. Practice: the students will be group into 4 to identify a function based on what assigned to them and construct their own
Example of function relating an input and an output then explain.
5. Enrichment: the students will answer the question base on what they have learned.
6. Evaluation: The students will identify if the given situation is a function or not and explain.

PROCEDURE MEETING THE LEARNERS’ NEEDS

Introduction/Review: explain the previous lesson
II. Present the lesson objectives

Objectives:
By the end of the lesson the learner will have been able to:
a. identify and illustrate functions using ordered pairs, table of
values and graphs.
b. present real life situations using functions with input and output.
c. appreciate the topic and cooperate

III. Answer the following questions regarding the presented pictures.

Motivation:

Tune of “Magtanim ay di biro”

In determining function
X must not be repeating
Using different method
We can find it easily

By mapping
By graphing
Or by table of values
By listing ordered pairs
In determining function

A. Motivation:
The students will sing function song to the tune of magtanim ay di biro

Instruction/Delivery:

Using their knowledge regarding to a functions, the students will give their idea or
understanding about it.
The students will answer a set of questions.

1. What is function according to the picture presented?

2. What will be the input and the output?
3. What do you think a machine represent?
4. Given your answer in number 2, what do you think is our Independent(x) and Dependent(y)
there? Give an example of independent and Dependent in real life situation.

Answer key:

1. Function can relate to a machine where in there is an input and output.

2. Input is the things or a food you put inside the machine, while the output is the outcome.
3. A function.
4. Input is the independent and the output is the dependent *they will give a set of examples in
real life situation.

As a class, the students will discuss and check their answers with the help of their teacher.
*Discussion follows

Practice: the students will be group into 4 to identify a function based on what they assigned
to them and construct their own example Of function relating an input and an output then
explain.

Enrichment:
Process questions:
1. What is a function? How can we identify a function? By the use of what?
2. When can you tell if the situation or example is a function or not?
3. How can we identify a function? By the use of what?
4. Why do you think we can relate in real life situation a function?

Evaluation: The students will identify if the given situation is a function or not and explain.
