SELECTION OF WATER CONTENT

From Table 2, maximum water content for 20 mm aggregate(The water Litre

content in Table 2 is for angular coarse aggregate and for 25 to 50 mm
slump range)

CALCULATION OF CEMENT CONTENT

Water-Cement Ratio
STEP 5
Water Quantity Litre
Net Water Quantity of Cement = (Water/WCR) Kg

NOTE : From Table of IS 456 , minimum cement content for Severe exposure condition = 320 kg/m3
361.088 kg/m3 > 320 kg/m3 , hence Ok.

PROPORTION OF VOLUME OF COARSE AGGREGATE AND FINE AGGREGATE CONTENT

From Table 3. volume of coarse aggregate corresponding to 20 mm size aggregate

and fine aggregate( zone III) for Water-Cement Ratio 0.50 = 0.64

In the present case WCR is 0.45. Therefore volume of coarse aggregate is required to be increased or decrease
aggregate conent.

Therefore Coarse aggregate is required to be increased to decrease the fine aggregate content. As the WCR is lo
Step 6
Actual Water-Cement Ratio
Table 3. volume of Coarse aggregate corresponding WCR
At the rate of -/+ 0.01 for every +/- 0.05 change in WCR
Calculated Value for diff. = 0.05
Corrected proportion of volume of coarse aggregate WCR of 0.45 (0.64+.01) =0.65
For Pumpable concrete these values should be reduced by 10 %
Net proportion of coarse agg.
Net proportion of Fine agg. (1 - Coarse agg.)

MIX CALCULATION
The Mix Calculation per unit Volume of Concrete shall be as follows :
(a) Volume of Concrete Cum
Volume of Cement = Mass of cement/ Specific gravity of Cement X 1/1000

(b) Mass of Cement KG

Specific Gravity of Cement
Volumetric Quantity of Cement Cum

Volume of Water = Mass of water / Specific Gravity of water X 1/1000

(c ) Mass of Water Kg
Specific Gravity of Water
Volumetric Quantity of Water Cum

Volume of chemical Admixture(Superplasticizer) (@ 2% of mass of cementitious material) = Mas

admixture/ Specific gravityof amixture X 1/ 1000
(d)
Admixture @ 2% of Cementitious Material Kg
Specific gravity of admixture (Manufecture test certificate)
Volumtic Quantity of Admixture Cum

Volume of all in aggregate = a - ( b + c + d )

(e)
Volume of All Aggregate Cum

Mass of Coarse Aggregate = e X Volume of coarse agg. X sp. Gr. Coarse agg. X 1000
(f)
Total Weight of Coarse Aggregate Kg

Mass of Fine Aggregate = e X Volume of Fine agg. X sp. Gr. Fine agg. X 1000
(g)
Total Weight of Fine Aggregate Kg
