SUMMARY

Leandro Babiera and Carlos Shan are close friends during their college days even
in the present days. Leandro already owns a poultry farm that was inherited from
his parents which supplied chickens in their town located in Badian, Cebu. When
Leandro took over, he expanded the business by supplying chickens around Cebu
province and needed a logistic company to do the delivery services. Knowing the
situation of his close friend, Carlos invested his money to create a logistic business
to help his friend and earn a living as well. He bought 20 trucks, equipments,
maintenance tools, and hired maintenance mechanic and drivers for a complete
package in the business. When the operation started, everything went well until
after a month, conflicts happened in the company. The most discovered problem
was, drivers being late and at times not attending to their given time for duty which
also gives his close friend and business partner Leandro problems because his
customers (merchants) are disappointed for the delay in delivering the products
(chicken). Carlos needs to do immediate action to stop the mess for the business to
be successful on the long run and to save the relationship with his business partner
and customers (merchants) as well.

PROBLEMS
- Carlos does not have a strict policy to discipline his drivers.
- Carlos and Leandro don’t have good relationship with their workers.
- Both Carlos and Leandro are new in business (Carlos just made his delivery
business while Leandro just inherited the business from his parents and is
new to the business.)

OBJECTIVES OF THE CASE

Carlos and Leandro must join seminars and do research for them to learn on how to
run the business with their workers. In their situation, they must first learn and find
a strategy on how to discipline and at the same time motivate their workers to work
for them.
ALTERNATIVE COURSE OF ACTIONS
- Three Warnings

- Suspension after Warnings

- Salary Deduction

- Covering up the financial loss of the company due to their misconduct

- Termination of Driver

- Giving Incentives for a good performance in a given period of time

RECOMMENDATION
Carlos and Leandro must be strict and at the same time helpful to their employees
for a good relationship. For now as they start their quest to improve the
relationship with their workers, the best way to do is to give drivers incentives for
a good performance in a given period of time. In the other side, management must
record and monitor the attendance of their workers for control to their misconduct.

CONCLUSION
For every month Carlos and Leandro will donate each driver being present and
punctual with discipline in work on every working day for 24 days will receive 10
kilos of rice incentive. Rice is chosen to be an incentive because for Filipinos, it is
the most basic need and given that the price of rice is increasing due to train law
which provides less expense to their monthly needs. In this way, we can motivate
drivers to be present and punctual all the time and they will feel appreciated for
their hard work that they served on a monthly basis in the company which makes
the relationship in the organization better. It will also benefit the company as well
because it will make the operation smooth and efficient. In the Logistics industry,
time is gold/money and it is a need to solve this problem immediately. As a partner
of the supplier, we must be on time in our deliveries to gain goodwill to our
customers.
