A means of telling a subordinate how he is doing and suggesting needed changes in his
behavior, attitudes, and skills or job knowledge.
Welfare means faring or doing well. It is a comprehensive term and refers to the
physical, mental moral and emotional well being of an individual.
Labor welfare also referred to as betterment work for employees, relatives to taking
care of the well-being of work by employers, agencies.
It is rather difficult to define the term labor welfare precisely because of the relatively
of the concept reported. The royal commission on labor.
Definition: The ILO at its Asian conference, defined labour welfare as a term which is
understood to include such services facilities amenities as may be established in or in the
vicinity of undertakings enables the person employed in them to perform their work in
healthy, congenial surroundings, and to provide them with amenities conducive to good
health and high morale.
7
MLR INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY
Labour welfare has two aspects – negative and positive. On the negative side, labor
welfare is concerned with contracting the baneful effects of the Large-scale industrial system
of production – especially capitalistic so far as India is concerned – on the personal family
and social life of the worker. On the positive side, it deals with the provision of
opportunities for the worker and his/her family for a good life as understood in its most
comprehensive sense.
As employee's welfare measures are important for the enhancement of moral and
motivation of employee's this topic is selected for the study.

in the sample. It is determined before data is collected.
Due to time constraint, a deep coverage into the aspects of the study was not possible.
Data collected through secondary source may be based and make it historic.
The study is being limited to survey conducted through questionnaire and personal
interviews.
The views of respondents in the survey may be faulty in order to defend the

REVIEW OF LITERATURE
According to Arthur James Todd, "welfare as anything is done for the comfort or
improvement and social of the employees over and above the wages paid, which is not a
necessity of the industry".
Employee welfare means, such services, facilities and amenities such as canteens, rest and
recreation facilities, arrangement for travel to and for the accommodation of workers
employed at a distance from their home, and such other services, amenities and facilities
including social security measures as contribute to improve the condition under which
workers are employed.
Employee welfare may be viewed as a total concept, as a social concept and a relative
concept. The total concept is a desirable state of existence involving the physical, mental,
moral and emotional well-being. The social concept of welfare implies, of man, his family,
and his community.
The relative concept of welfare implies that welfare is relative in time and place. Employee
welfare implies the setting up of minimum desirable standards and the provision of facilities
like health, food, clothing housing, medical allowance, education, insurance, job security,
such as to safeguard his health and protect him against occupational hazards. The worker
should also be equipped with the necessary training and a certain level of general education.
