Ans. Myths are traditional stories that try to explain how things in nature
came to be.

Q2.What is the theme of the story “How Night Came From The Sea?”

Ans.The theme of the story is night is a special gift.

Q3.Who was Iemanja and where did she live?

Ans. Iemanja was an African goddess who dwelt in the depths of the sea.

Q4.Why did Iemanja’s daughter come to live on earth?

Ans. Iemanja’s daughter loved her husband so, she came to live with him on
earth.
Q5.What problem did Iemanja’s daughter face on earth?

Ans.The light was too bright and hard for her. She missed the coolness of
the night.

Q6.Why did the servants shook with fear?

Ans. The strange sounds of the night creatures frightened the servants.

Q7.What is night like for Iemanja’s daughter?

Ans.Night is like quiet after crying or end of the storm.It is a cool blanket
that covers everything.

Q1.What worried the husband and what did he do to solve the


problem?

Ans.The husband wanted to make Iemanja’s daughter happy so that she


would not long to return to her mother’s place. He called three faithful
servants and send them to Iemanja’s palace to get some night for his wife.

Q2.Describe the journey of the three servants.

Ans. It was a dangerous journey.The three servants went through the


surging waves of the ocean, over the underwater sand cliffs, and past the
razor- sharp coral reefs to reach Iemanja’s palace.

Q3.What did Iemanja pack for the servants and what was her
advice?

Ans.Iemanja packed a big bag of night for the servants to carry. She warned
them not to open the bag in absence of her daughter as she is the only
person who can calm down the night spirits inside it.

Q4.How did the earth change when Iemanja’s daughter greeted her
kinship spirits?

Ans.As Iemanja’s daughter greeted,the night spirits were calmed and there
was darkness everywhere. Night creatures began to hum, moonbeams
flickered across the sky, and the air grew heavy with night perfume.
