The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is the premier event in ocean


rowing and brings together teams from across the World. A true test of
physical and psychological endurance, the teams will race to cross the
Atlantic Ocean in nothing more than a rowing boat.

4 school friends living on opposite sides of the world, brought back together by a desire to achieve
something life-changing and a drive to make a difference.

EWAN BELL - UK - SKIPPER


Ewan was attracted to the Talisker Whisky Atlantic
Challenge by its promise to test his physical and
mental resolve to the limit. A fiercely competitive
athlete, he comes from a long line of accomplished
sailors who have previously sailed across the
Atlantic themselves. He now intends to go one better
and cross the Atlantic powered entirely by his own
steam.

ED WILSON - AUSTRALIA
As a two time British National Rowing Champion, Ed
will be leading the team from the front as the crew
member with the most experience behind the oars.

Ed saw the opportunity to cross the Atlantic


unassisted as too good to miss, and is looking
forward to both the physical and mental challenge of
the race.

JAMES PROTHEROUGH - UK
Having hung up his rugby boots, James is looking
forward to a new challenge and is determined to
raise money for two charities helping prevent oceans
of the world drowning in our own waste. From their
school days he knows there is a strong competitive
nature instilled within the crew and is confident that
they will be pushing for the front in their campaign.

JON MEROTRA - AUSTRALIA


When Jon discovered that more people had been
into space than had rowed the Atlantic, there was no
turning back. Jon is the most adventurous out of the

driven 10,000 miles in a small hatchback from
London to Mongolia and a hiked to Everest Base
Camp, Nepal. Rowing the Atlantic is just the next

to measure critical ocean properties
throughout the crossing including:

This unique data set will be used to help


researchers and scientific communities
understand trends in the Atlantic Ocean’s
