LESSON PLAN IN ICT GRADE 10

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of the underlying con-

cepts and principles in configuring computer systems and networks.
Date: February 12, 2019
TIME ALLOTMENT: 1 hour

I. OBJECTIVES
1. Recognize the different network hand tools and LAN wire color codes.
2. Showcase how to create a straight through LAN cable.
3. Appreciate the application of network for everyday life.
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Creating Straight Through Cable
Learning Competency: Create Cross-Over and Straight Through Cables.
Materials:
Network switch, Bond Paper, Scotch Tape, Crimping tool, RJ45, UTP cable, Cable
Tester, Wire Stripper and LCD Projector.
REFERNCE: TLE-10 Learning Material, https://www.slideshare.net/RomneRyan-
Portacion1/tle-10-ict-lan-cabling.
III. PROCEDURE

A. Preparation
a. Preliminaries
 Opening Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of Attendance
b. Review (5 minutes)
 What is a Cross-Over Cable?
 Can you enumerate all the tools and materials needed in creating cross
over cable?
c. Motivation (Group of 6) (30 seconds)
“COLOR CODING GAME”
 Provide eight strips of UTP cable wire to every group
 Each group will arrange the eight strips of wire the same order as the color-
coding standard of T568A and T568B.
 Outputs will be posted in front.
B. Lesson Proper
a. Discussion (20 minutes)
Showing Power Point Presentation (Lesson Proper)
Straight Through Cable Fabrication with step by step guide.
b. Application
▪ Group Activity (10 minutes)
STRAIGHT-THROUGH CABLE FABRICATION
• Group Students into 6, each group will be provided with Unshielded Twisted Pair (UTP) Cable,
RJ45 Connector and Crimping tool.
• Each member of every group will perform specific steps in Fabricating a Straight Through Cable.
• While one group member is performing, the other group members are allowed to guide their
groupmate.
• Each group should let the person finish the steps assigned to him/her before the other member
take-over for the next steps.
• When the fabrication is done, submit your output.
• Your outputs will be checked using a LAN tester.

Safety Precaution/Reminder: Avoid Playing Around, Use the Proper hand tool, always be on task,
Avoid Unnecessary Noise.
Students performances will be evaluated/rated using the Performance Rubrics.

Safety Procedures (15%)
-Applied safety precautions
while working
Adherence to the Procedure
(30%)
-Follow the procedures systemat-
ically
Workmanship (15%)
-Organized materials and tools
while accomplishing the task and
has time management
Quality of Product (40%)
-Produce a fully functional Ether-
net Cable.

 How useful is computer networking in your life?

 Which hand tool are needed for creating network cable?
 Which color combination would make a straight through cable? How
about the crossover cable?
c. Generalization
Always take into considerations that before using the cable in connecting
actual devices. It is suggested that you must use a LAN tester first to check
the functionality of the cable.

IV. EVALUATION (15 minutes)
