LIST OF ILLUSTRATION OF DIAGRAM
1. Physical biometrics:
i. Fingerprint- Analyzing fingertip patterns.
ii. Facial Recognition- Measuring facial characteristics.
iii. Hand Geometry- Measuring the shape of the hand.
iv. Iris recognition- Analyzing features of colored ring of the eye.
v. Vascular Patterns- Analyzing vein patterns.
vi. Retinal Scan- Analyzing blood vessels in the eye.
vii. Bertillon age- Measuring body lengths (no longer used).
2. Behavioral biometrics:
i. Speaker Recognition- Analyzing vocal behavior.
ii. Signature- Analyzing signature dynamics.
iii. Keystroke- Measuring the time spacing of typed words.
4. Characteristics of Biometric
Biometric characteristics can be divided in two main classes:
1. Physiological are related to the shape of the body. Examples include, but
are not limited to fingerprint, face recognition, DNA, palm print, hand
geometry, iris recognition (which has largely replaced retina recognition),
and odor/scent.
2. Behavioural are related to the behavior of a person. Examples include, but
are not limited to typing rhythm, gait, and voice. Some researchers have
coined the term "behaviometrics" for this class of biometrics.

5. Fingerprint Biometric Devices
-Fingerprint Scanner
A fingerprint scanner is an electronic device used to capture a digital image
of the fingerprint pattern. This scan is digitally processed to create a
biometric template which is stored and used for matching.

Ridge Detection
Image Enhancement and Binarization
Thinning
Minutiae detection and extraction
Post processing
Figure-1.3
Image from Scanner - The fingerprint device takes the fingerprints
of a user.
Ridge Detection – The fingerprint then sent to the quality control
which is nothing but the ridge detection.
