The 2-C 2-I 1-R : FIVE PEDAGOGICAL APPROACHES IN K TO 12 21ST CENTURY

CURRICULUM
Slide1 :Teachers developed every human being from a tabula rasa to a functional, literate and
productive individual...it a great responsibility to become a teacher...we become a loco parentis
(second parents) to our pupils.

Slide 2: The 3 important elements in learning are: the Curriculum, the Assessment and the
Pedagogy. This morning I will discuss or focus my discussion about the 5 pedagogical
approaches in the K to 12 Curr. Which are 2-C, 2-I, and 1R : What do we find in the curriculum?
The subjects or disciplines, the various contents to know and competencies and skills to
develop with proper attitude and values. The pedagogy or the various approaches suited to
learners learning style or wow students learn and teacher should teach? Lastly, we provide
assessment to measure the performance of the pupils or whether the students have learned
and serve as a basis for remedial instruction, reteach or move –on to the next topic.

Slide 3: The center of the educative process and focus of teaching is our ___________? Yes our
students! We should know our learner, their learning style as basis of our teaching style and
not our teaching style for their learning style. We took up educational psychology to determine
the nature of our learner and various teaching methods and strategies to match these learning
style and provide holistic development using various methods and strategies in teaching. What
the learners needs are providing them life skills, self actualization or fulfilment and preparation
for the wow, to be an entrepreneur (engage in business), and pursue higher education...at the
end is to become a productive citizen of our country.

Slide 4: SUITABLE Curriculum, PROVIDING internal and external SUPPORT, DEVELOPING Life
and Career SKILLS >>>>>> BEING AND BECOMING A WHOLE PERSON WILL LEAD TO A
HOLISTICALLY DEVELOPED FILIPINO WITH 21ST CENTURY SKILLS!

Slide 5: FROM TRADITIONAL WAY TO MODERN APPROACH IN THE 21ST CENTURY...TEACHERS

NEEDS TO CHANGE OUR TEACHING STYLE suited to the learning styles of your pupils.

Slide 6 : With all these changes, developing the necessary 21st skills among our learners, project
–based and learner-centered curriculum, teacher as facilitator of learning...what we need is to
CHANGE, an education reform that will meet the 21st century demands among our learners.
Before we change our pupils, we must change ourselves first to meet the demands of the 21 st
century – what we need to adopt is to be a transformational leader! According to Mahatma
Gandhi: 'Live as if ... “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the
world.”
Slide 7 : Before we need to prepare our students, we teachers must be equipped with the
demands of the times...changing ourselves first for the learners’ future...maintain student
interest, instill curiosity, be flexible, excite the learners

Slide 8: The changes in the curriculum from BEC/RBEC to K to 12 Curr. requires the use of these
5 pedagogical approaches as mandated by RA 10533... And these are the 2-C, 2I and 1-R
pedagogical approaches. It is a must and not an option.

Slide 9: Before we proceed, let’s define pedagogy. Let’s read....karunungan, kagalingan at

kakayahan sa pagtuturo upang maging isang epektibong guro...lahat ng guro ay nagtuturo, pero
lahat ba ay epektibo? We are to teach efficiently and effectively not mainly on the salary we get
from the people’s tax but because of the calling of God...to teach and make disciples...and
make every pupil a children of God.

Slide 10: How you think and how you act is what you are or determines what kind of person you
are. Pedagogy is the manner or the approaches/methods/style of how we will transfer or instil
this knowledge/substance to the pupils’ mind and will also transform the heart.

Slide 11: Constructivist approach is allowing the learners to construct meanings from his or her
experiences with people and environment. Teachers determines what the pupils have learned
from experiences and add more knowledge and experience from interaction with other pupils
from activities prepared by the teachers. During the process of discussion and sharing of
experiences in group work , pupils will either accept more knowledge or discard other
information's or experiences that are wrong.

Slide 12: Deductive method is use – from whole to parts. We find answers to students
questions and interest. We teach not only using our textbooks but using real objects, real
equipment, tools and other manipulative materials to gain the skills desired. Learning is
interactive by starting to ask from what the students previous experience and knowledge as the
starting point of interest and answering questions before the lesson ends. KWL or what they
know, what do they want to know, what they learned.

Slide 13: In constructivist approach these methods are use: Discovery, Collaborative group
work, Scaffolding, Self-guided learning based on personal experience, Peer grading/review.

Slide 14: Developing the ability to think, analyze and put meaning to words and numbers, solve
problems and make the right decisions. We teach our pupils to be independent and make their
own actions and decision, analyze situation.etc
Slide 15: Activities develops their thinking skills, gather data and put meaning in these data,
develop their communication skills, camaraderie, planning or sequencing of work and action,
DIY, Project based learning output.

Slide 16: We just don’t tell but show and demonstrate...actions are better than words –
modelling.

Slide 17: Differentiated activities for learning – various task with a common goal. Grouping
according to their likes, personality, skills, hobbies, learning styles, a commonality. Multi
intelligence, multi skills....

Slide 18: Pupils were divided in to groups and ask to perform certain task or activities and in this
activity, students tries to discover and gather information in a collaborative to do analysis,
interpretation, conduct assessment and evaluation, compare results and make findings and
recommendation.

Slide 19: In, collaborative learning approach, pupils work together in group activities to solve a
problem or task assign to the group. Sharing of ideas, data gathering, analysis and
interpretation and solution to problem are done by the active and interactive participation of
the group. Each member shared by taking and work together to solve a problem. This approach
helps to prepare our pupils for the world of world in the future, where people work in an
organization, work as a team to achieved the vision, mission and goals of organization where
they will work in the future.

Slide 20: Technology helps them work together, regardless of distance and time. They can use
various websites to conduct their research, data gathering process etc. And shared their
information with the group in whether they are in different places and time... No personal
interaction...they interact in the internet.

Slide 21: Pupils interact thru socialization and gather information and knowledge thru
externalization. Knowledge derive from others are combine with his/her knowledge then
internalization process results to accept or reject new knowledge.

Slide 22: Approach-The jigsaw technique is a method of organizing classroom activity that
makes students dependent on each other to succeed. It breaks classes into groups and breaks
assignments into pieces that the group assembles to complete the (jigsaw) puzzle. It was
designed by social psychologist Elliot Aronson to help weaken racial cliques in forcibly
integrated schools.

Slide 23: Two pupils were form to think and shares ideas and record their combine and shared
ideas.
Slide 24: Pupils act as teacher to perform the teacher’s task.
