lnstallation
lf the copieris movedfrom a cold placeto a warm place,condensation
may form insidethe copier. Operationof the copierin this conditionwill
causepoor copy qualityand malfunctions.Leavethe copierat.room
temperaturefor at least2 hoursbeforeuse.
1. Removethe copierfromthe bag.
2. Removethe thumbscrews, tape and the
labelfrom the bottomof the copier.
Note: The thumbscrewsare thereto prevent
pressureon the fuser rollduringshipment.
Failure to remove the thumbscrew willcause
a paper jam when operating the copier.

3. Removeall the piecesof tape from the


copierand then placethe copieron a level
surface.

Making Copies on the XC351
The Auto Startfeatureallowsyou to programthe copierwhile it is warming
up. You can selectthe exposuresetting,inserta sheetof paper,and walk
away from the copier. Copyingwill startautomatically
as soon as the
copieris warmedup.
1. Turnthepoweron.
2. Openthedocument
cover.
3. Placetheoriginalface down,between the
marks,in the upperright cornerof the
document glass.

4. Setthe paperguideto thewidthof the


copypaper.

Copy Contrast
To compensatefor lightor dark originalsthere are five copy contrast
settingsto choosefrom. Eachtime the Exposurebuttonis pressed,the
selectionwill scrollto the next settingin the followingorder:
1 -Auto, 2- Manual,3 - Light,4 - Dark,5 - TonerSave.

In the Auto mode,the copierautomatically


selectsthe exposurebasedon the original
darknessand background.

Two-Sided Copying
1. Placethe f irstoriginalface down on the
documentglassand makea copy.

2. Placethe secondoriginalfacedown on

orientationfrom the first original.

Setting Copy Exposure Range
The copy exposurerangemay be adjustedwhen the copy imageis
consistentlytoo dark or too light. The Exposurebuttonand the indicators
on the controlpanelare usedto enterand selectthe long term copy
densitychanges. The new copy exposurerangewill remainset untilthis .
processis usedagain.

CAUTION:
When removingthe misfedpaper,be careful
not to touchthe bottomcover releaselever,
springsor otherpartsinsidethe bottomcover.
Be carefulnot to touch or scratchthe shiny
surfaceof the copy cartridgeor exposeit to
the lightfor an extendedperiodof time.
7. Carefullyremovethe misfedpaper.
. lf the paperaccidentallytears,be sure
to removeall of the pieces. Be careful
not to damagethe corotronwire.
8. Closethe bottomcoversecurely.
9. Set the copierback to the normal
operatingposition.
Note: Failureto set the copierbackto the
normaloperatingpositionbeforeturningthe
poweron may causethe misfeedindicatorto
flash. In thiscase,set the copierin the
normaloperatingpositionand turn the power
off and then on.

When insufficient toner is detectedat the startof copying,the toner
cartridgereplacementindicatorwill lightand the copiersearchesfor toner
for up to 1 minute.Duringthe time thatthe copieris searchingfor toner
the documentglasswill slide back and forth. lf the copierdetects
insufficienttoner again,the indicatorwill flashand the copierwill stop. At
this time, you must replacethe tonercartridge.
Duringmultiplesheetcopyingof a darkoriginal,the tonercartridge
replacementindicatormay flashand the copiermay stop eventhough
toner remainsin the cartridge.lf this occurs,turn the powerswitchoff and
then on again,and restartcopying.
Note: A few more copiermay be made by usingthis procedure.
Vigorouslyshakethe cartridgehorizontally 4 or 5 times,tap the top of the
cartridge(labelside),with your handthen reinsertthe cartridgeintothe
coprer.
1. Turn off the powerswitch.
2. Pressthe frontcoveroDenbuttonand
open the front cover.
3. Pressdownon the catchand oullthetoner
cartridgeout of the copier.
Note: Help the environmentby recycling
your usedtonercartridge.Referto the Xerox
GreenTeam brochurepackedwith the toner
cartridgefor instructions
on returningthe used
tonercartridgeto Xerox.
4. Vigorouslyshakethe new tonercartridge
horizontally
four or fivetimesand then
removethe cover.
. Savethe box and tonercartridgecover
to packthe tonercartridgefor shipping
or movrng.

Drum Cartridge Replacement
The usefullifeof the drumcartridgeis approximately 10,000oopies.At
9,700copies,the Toner Save,Exposuresettings,and Readyindicators
willflashslowlywhenthe poweris turnedon, indicating thatthe
replacementcartridgewill be neededsoon. Copyingcan be performed
usingthe normalprocedureat this time. After makingapproximately 300
additionalcopiesthe Ready Indicatorwill go out, the TonerSave and
ContrastIndicatorswill f lash,and the copierwill stop operatinguntilthe
cartridgeis replaced.
1. Turn off the oowerswitch.
