6B Literatures in English
Course Outline
Unit Topic: Drama
Primary Text: Cymbeline by William Shakespeare
Christmas Term 2018

RATIONALE: Literature is a medium through which the ideas, aspirations and feelings of people are often
explored. To know literature is, therefore, to become familiar with the communities that have produced it. Thus,
the writer plays an integral role in interpreting aspects of daily lives and mirroring these realities in imaginative
structures. The study of literature provides the individual with analytical, organizational and communicative
skills which are undoubtedly essential in contemporary society. This unit will focus on drama as a unique genre
which explores the varied human experience, through the specific study of Cymbeline, as students prepare for
the CAPE, Literatures in English Examination.
