Writing test 4:

Part 1: Summary:

Dress and decoration have constituted symbolic and esthetic since the year dot
in every cultures. Each color of clothing represents distinct meanings. For
example, white is purity, innocence ; black means unhappiness and relation to
the death and especially, purple which illustrates the luxury and power. In
addition, dress is also used to stress the beauty of people. However, past fashion
traits are often regarded as unpleasant and hideous by today’s people. The
clothing varies in different periods of time. The earliest form was wearing
adornment with body painting, tatooing and masks with a view to alter the
body’s limitations in both men and women. Even before 14th century, the
clothing was just simple and remained unchanging styles for with loose robes.
However, in the 14th century, the fashion changed styles rapidly with the birth
of tailored and fitted clothing. The impact of fashion was felt even in the
workforce with the change to informal wear. In short, while fashion is
prescriptive in every era, clothing can freely convey owners’ unique tastes
based on some standards. Mass production was mainly for the wealthy, but still
gave the majority a means of self-expression.

Part 2: (Phân tích theo từng loại leisure activity)

The chart represents information about four types of leisure activities engaged
in by three distinct groups of people: native Australians, recently arrived
immigrants from English-speaking countries and new immigrants for whom
English is not the first language in their nations.

The cinema is by far the most popular free-time activity listed in the chart for
those whose first language is English with 70% of non-migrants and roughly
65% of English-speaking migrants. About 50% migrants from non-English
speaking countries also go to see films, however, most people of this group
(55%) prefer the library to the cinema. Whereas, approximately 40% of the
other two groups concede that they visit the library.

Zoos are visited most by half of the English-speaking migrants, much more than
about 42% visitors who are native Australians and 35% of migrants born
where English is not widely spoken. Moreover, the theatre is least popular for
all concerned, with only 10% of non-English speaking immigrants attending
and well above 20% visiting of the other two groups of people.
Part 3: “Some people say students should be organized into groups to
study, while others argue that students should be made to study alone”

What are the benefits of each study method?Which one do you think is
more effective?

People’s opions differ on whether it is better to study individually or work in

group with others. While there are some apparent advantages of studying alone,
I personally believe that groupwork is also a beneficial way of working and
cooperation between students.

On the one hand, people argue that studying alone is suitable for students for
various reasons. The biggest factor, presumably, is that it allows learners to
study at their own convenience with little dependence on others. They not only
can avoid surrounding distractions, boosting up concentration but also solve
exercises independently. Therefore, their performance in tests can be gradually
improved since they are used to tackle difficulties themselves. Another crucial
factor is that the process of achieving knowlegde varies from each individual in
terms of learning style. For example, several learners love to work with
information in a systematic and organised way, while there are those who work
in a seemingly spontaneous and disorganised manner. These people may meet
several conflicts and arguments when working together. Also, in some cases,
group study may not work well as study sessions could easily turn into hangout
sessions, so working alone seems to be better.

On the other hand, I argue that group work brings about more significant
benefits in getting a good grasp of academic knowledge and the encouragement
of learning various skills. Firstly, groupwork requires students to ask questions
and explain their viewpoints to others. This assists them to increase the
opportunities to apply their knowledge and also enhances their interest and in
studying. Moreover, this kind of working enables studentss to accept different
opinions and extend their insights into the matter, hence developing the
sustainability as well as critical thinking skills as a whole. Secondly, many
learners may derive energy from being around other people and look forward to
learning and discussing the material with classmates. This would create
inspiration and a positive attitude towards learning, as well as encourage the
eager pursuit of further education.

In conclusion, while there are some students who may choose to study alone
because they can independently control their study and have no undesirable
distractions from others, it seems to me that group study is more worthwhile
regarding comprehensive understanding and learning motivation.
