1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
This specification defines the minimum requirements for surfaces preparation, protective painting
system selection and application of painting, color code and inspection & testing of prepared
surface and applied paint system for DIPWP project.
The durability of the painting shall be classified as high durability (>15 years) as per ISO 12944
and atmospheric corrosivity category C5-M (Outdoor) and C4 (Indoor) as per ISO 12944.
All ferrous surfaces of equipment and structural elements supplied by the Contractor shall be
painted in the shop, or field as applicable, after surface preparation with the following exceptions
that shall not be painted unless specifically required by design drawings.
• Joints and surfaces to be field welded (unless a weldable primer, approved by Purchaser, is
used).
• Surfaces in contact with concrete or grout
• Milled and other machine-finished surfaces
• Galvanized surfaces unless specified specifically
• Non-ferrous surfaces (such as copper, brass, aluminum, etc.) unless specified specifically
• Stainless steel surfaces except SS304 / SS 304L surface located outdoor
• Internal surface of pipes, tubes and valves unless specified specifically
• Plastic and / or plastic coated materials unless specified specifically
• Contact surfaces where connections are made by means of high strength friction grip bolts
• Metal embedded in concrete
Painting of nameplates, couplings, shafts and other finished surfaces, gasket surfaces as well as
paint on valve stems, motors or electronic equipment is not permitted. Contractor shall remove all
paint, paint drops, overspray, or inadvertent application, as well as clean the paint off nameplates
and machined surfaces, etc., at the Contractor’s expense.
Contractor shall provide sufficient quantity of each category paint material used at shop, for
application at site as touch-up paint in case of shop painting.
Shop painted members that have joints and/or surfaces that will be field welded shall have a 7.5
cm strip on each side of the joint or field weld location left unpainted. Should the Contractor elect
to use weldable primer, the 7.5 cm strip on each side of the joint or field weld location is not
required. Contractor shall submit manufacturer’s information on application and chemical
composition to Purchaser for approval prior to use. In the case of multi-coat systems, every coat
shall be stepped back about 30 mm. A strip size allows varying according to the depth of weld
and/or for other reasons.
Milled surfaces and other machine-finished shall be protected against corrosion by using rust
preventive oil or other suitable material approved by Purchaser.

Upon completion of the painting, all brick work, concrete surfaces, steel sheets, floors, insulation,
etc which has been stained by the painting work shall be thoroughly cleaned.
Should any painting work or paint material be found defective or not in compliance with the
specification, correction or replacement by the Contractor at his own cost is imperative.
Control desks, control panels, cubicles, local instrument cabinets and racks shall be finish painted
at the manufacturer’s works to a high standard as per manufacture standard as per recognized
international standard with min. requirement specified in respective specification and suitable for
atmospheric corrosivity category specified here.

The codes and standards specified above are indicative but not exhaustive.
Standards not indicated in the specification are acceptable subject to the approval of
Purchaser/Owner/Engineer, if they are established to be equal or superior to the standards
indicated in the specification.
In the event of any conflict between the codes and standards referred to elsewhere in the
specification and the requirements of this specification, more stringent of the two shall govern.
3. APPLICATION
Whenever possible, complete paint system shall be shop applied, but if damage during
transportation, loading & unloading and erection is a major concern, than surface preparation,
primer and intermediate coats to be applied in the shop and the top coat to be applied at field and
shall be finish painted after installation as per the plant color code scheme specified in clause no.
9.0. Shop and field applied painting requirement shall be as per approved by purchaser.
3.1. Workmanship
Workmanship is to be of the best quality, performed only by skilled workmen. The Contractor is to
be responsible for the appearance of the finished work, the proper preparation of surfaces to be
painted, and the proper mixing and application of each paint or coating in accordance with the
manufacturer’s directions. All materials are to be evenly spread and smoothly flowed on, without
runs, sags, brush marks or cracks. No materials are to be applied over a previously applied coat
until the surface is dry and hard, properly prepared to receive the next coat, and the prepared
surface have been approved by the Engineer. Work shall be performed by skilled craftsmen
qualified to perform the work in a manner comparable with the best standards of practice.
The Contractor shall follow all guide line given in Paint Manufacture Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS).
The paint supplier has to present a Material Safety Data Sheet that typically includes at least
information concerning generic material identification, hazardous ingredients, physical data, fire
and explosion data, health hazards, reactivity data, spill or leak procedures, special protection
requirement and other special precautions.
The Contractor shall have measures against harmful effects of fumes, dust, vapors and noise, as
well as fire hazards.
All paint and thinners shall be stored in an area that is well ventilated and protected from spark,
flame, direct rays from the sun and from excessive heat.

All painting shall be done under strict "No smoking" regulations and the respective areas shall be
clearly defined with warning sign boards.
It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor that all work to be done and all equipment used for
this purpose is in accordance with the local statutory regulations.
Temporary construction, ladders, scaffolding runways, etc required for safe execution of the
painting work shall be rigidly built so as to support the weight of all materials, apparatus,
equipment and men thereon. All scaffolding and similar temporary work when required for the
proper execution of the work included under this section shall be furnished and maintained.
Scaffolding shall be removed promptly when no longer needed.
When painting internal surfaces the Contractor shall provide adequate ventilation at all times from
cleaning, during blasting until the painting is completed.
The ventilation shall be adequate to prevent condensation on the surfaces being treated.
In preparing any surface to be coated, all loose paint, dirt, grease, oil, rust, mill scale, weld slag or
spatter or any other extraneous material shall be removed and defects repaired, so as to obtain a
clean, dry, even surface to receive the priming or finishing coat (s) as called for in the painting
schedules.
Oil, grease, salts, dirt, soil and other contaminants from steel surface shall be removed by SSPC
SP-1, prior to further surface preparation.
Perform preparation and cleaning procedures in strict accordance with paint manufacturer's
instructions and as herein specified, for each particular substrate condition.
Where metal surfaces are to be painted the surface profiles shall be “medium (G)” or “medium
(S)” as defined in ISO 8503-1 or as per Paint Manufacture recommended surface profile for better
performance of protective painting system.
All corners and sharp edges should be rounded to a 2mm radius, especially when tank linings
have to be applied. For internal coatings subject to immersion conditions, assure that weld
surfaces conform to NACE SP0178 Weld Preparation Designation “C” unless otherwise specified.
All machined surfaces, including flange faces, shall be suitably covered to prevent damage during
surface preparation.
Masking, taping, and other such activities shall be applied or installed prior to painting application.
Surfaces not requiring painting shall be protected from overspray, painting drift, inadvertent
application, and inadvertent discharge of paint materials.
The surface of the component shall be blasted within 4 hours prior to painting the component. If
the relative humidity is greater than 80%, blast immediately prior to painting. Blast cleaning shall

not be conducted when the temperature of the surface is less than 3°C above dew point of
surrounding air. Surface shall not be left unpainted overnight.
Surfaces to be painted must be dry and free of all dirt, mildew, chalk, spent abrasive and any
other contaminant of foreign material that could inhibit adhesion.
Cleaning of fabricated items shall be carried out after fabrication and final heat treatment or
welding at manufacturer's works or at site, as appropriate.
In the event of the surfaces not being cleaned to the purchaser satisfaction, such parts of the
cleaning procedures or agreed alternatives as are deemed necessary to overcome the
deficiencies shall be carried out at the Contractor's sole expense.
In the event of rusting after completion of the surface preparation, the surface must be cleaned
again in the manner specified.
Abrasive should be free from detrimental amount of water-soluble, solvent-soluble, acid soluble,
or other soluble contaminants. Criteria for selecting and evaluating abrasives are given in SSPC-
AB1, SSPC-AB2, SSPC-AB3 must be considered.
For reclining small areas, hand cleaning by wire brushing may be permitted.
Ferrous metal surface protected by shop primer &/ intermediate coat after arrival on site must be
cleaned of salt, sand, oil etc. Before the first coat of paint is applied on site. Shop primer &/
intermediate coat damaged during transport must be rectified by blast-cleaning and painting
before application of the site coats.
Depending on production flow, a weld able, inorganic ethyl zinc silicate or deoxialuminate
Prefabrication shop primer dry film thickness 15–25 micron may be used.
Steam Cleaning: This method effectively removes heavy deposits of dirt and grime by a
combination of high velocity, high temperature steam. The addition of caustic detergents or
cleansers into the water will readily remove greases and oils by emulsification, saponification, or
conversion of oil to a water soluble material.
b. Hand Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP2): Procedure for removal of loose mill scale, loose rust, and loose

paint by hand brushing, hand sanding, hand scraping, hand chipping, or other hand impact tools,
or by a combination of the above methods.
c. Power Tool Cleaning (SSPC-SP3): Procedure for removal of loose mill scale, loose rust, and
loose paint with power wire brushes, power impact tools, power grinders, power sanders, or by a
combination of the above methods. It is not intended that all mill scale, rust, and paint be removed
by this process; however, loose mill scale, loose rust, loose paint and other detrimental foreign
matter will be removed.
d. Power Tool Cleaning to Bare Metal (SSPC-SP11): Metallic surfaces which are prepared
according to this specification, when viewed without magnification, shall be free of all visible oil,
grease, dirt, dust, mill scale, rust, paint, oxide, corrosion products and other foreign matter. The
surface profile shall not be less than 1 mil (25 microns). Slight residues of rust and paint may be
left in the lower portions of pits if the original surface is pitted.
e. Brush-Off Blast Cleaning (NACE No 4/SSPC-SP7/Sa1): Procedure for removal of loose mill scale,
loose rust, and loose paint by the impact of abrasives propelled through nozzles or by centrifugal
wheels. All oil, grease, dirt, rust scale, loose mill scale, loose rust and loose paint or coatings shall
be removed completely. Tight mill scale and tightly-adhering rust, paint and coatings are
permitted to remain provided that the entire substrate is exposed to the abrasive blast pattern
sufficiently to expose numerous flecks of the underlying metal uniformly distributed over the entire
surface.
f. Commercial Blast Cleaning (NACE No 3/SSPC-SP6/Sa2): Procedure for removal of mill scale,
rust, rust scale, paint, or foreign matter by the use of abrasives propelled through nozzles or by
centrifugal wheels. All oil, grease, dirt, rust scale, and foreign matter shall be completely removed
from the surface according to SSPC-SP1. All rust, mill scale and old paint shall be completely
removed except for slight shadows, streaks, or discolorations caused by rust stain, mill scale
oxides or slight, tight residues of paint or coating that may remain. If the surface is pitted, slight
residues of rust or paint may be found in the bottom of pits; at least two-thirds of each unit area of
surface area shall be free of all visible residues and the remainder shall be limited to the light
discoloration, slight staining or tight residues mentioned above.
g. Near-White Blast Cleaning (NACE No 2/SSPC-SP10/ Sa2½): Procedure for removal of mill scale,
rust, rust scale, paint, or foreign matter by the use of abrasives propelled through nozzles or by
centrifugal wheels. All oil, grease, dirt, mill scale, rust, corrosion products, oxides, paint or other
foreign matter shall be completely removed from the surface except for very light shadows, very
slight streaks, or slight discolorations caused by rust stain, mill scale oxides, or slight tight
residues of paint or coating that may remain. At least 95% of each unit area of surface area shall
be free of all visible residues, and the remainder shall be limited to the light discoloration
mentioned above.
h. White Metal Blast Cleaning (NACE No 1/SSPC-SP5/ Sa3): Procedure for removal of all mill scale,
rust, rust scale, paint, or foreign matter by the use of abrasives propelled through nozzles or by
centrifugal wheels. Defined as a surface with a grey-white, uniform metallic color, slightly
roughened to form a suitable anchor pattern for coatings. The surface, when viewed without

magnification, shall be free of all oil, grease, dirt, visible mill scale, rust, corrosion products,
oxides, paint, or any other foreign matter. The color of the clean surface may be affected by the
particular abrasive medium used.
a. Aluminum: Remove all oil, grease, dirt and foreign matter by solvent or detergent cleaning in
accordance with SSPC-SP1 “Solvent Cleaning”.
Sweep blast to provide a uniform roughened surface as per paint manufacturer recommendation.
Or
Specially formulated pretreatment primer (etch primer) to treat the aluminum-coated steel /
aluminum before painting.
b. Galvanized: Metal: Removal all oil, grease, dirt and foreign matter by solvent or detergent
cleaning in accordance with SSPC-SP1 “Solvent Cleaning”.
Sweep blast to provide a uniform roughened surface as per paint manufacturer recommendation.
Or
Specially formulated pretreatment primer (etch primer) to treat the zinc-coated steel before
painting.
Or
“T Wash” which turns the zinc surface black when properly applied. If a surface does not turn
black the pretreatment has not been effective. Repeat the process.
In all this process care should be taken to remove as little zinc & aluminum as possible.
3.4.1. General:
Application of painting shall conform to the applicable requirements of SSPC-PA1, “Shop, Field
and Maintenance Painting” and to the Paint Manufacturer’s printed instructions and
recommendations.
If the below conditions are prevalent, painting shall be delayed or postponed until conditions are
favorable
a. When the surrounding air temperature or the temperature of the surface to be painted is below

b. When the surrounding air temperature or the temperature of the surface to be painted is higher
than paint manufacturers specified maximum limit for application;
d. When the temperature is less than 3°C above the dew point;
e. When it is expected that the air temperature will drop below 5°C or less than 3°C above the dew
point within eight hours after application of the painting.
The day’s painting work shall be completed in time to permit the film sufficient drying time to
prevent damage by atmospheric conditions.
b. Stir material before application to produce a mixture of uniform density and stir as required during
application of material. Do not stir surface film into the material. Remove the film and, if
necessary, strain the material before using.
c. If the Contractor intends to use thinners, the Contractor shall inform Purchaser and the paint
manufacturer of the intended method of application. The paint manufacturer shall then re-
evaluate the painting and furnish Purchaser and the Contractor, in writing, with the required wet
film thickness. Contractor shall obtain Purchaser’s approval of the paint manufacturer’s required
wet film thickness prior to the application of further material.
3.4.4. Application
a. Apply painting materials in accordance with the paint manufacturer’s printed instructions. Use
applicators and techniques best suited for the type of material being applied.
d. Paintings must be allowed to cure according to the relevant Product Technical Data Sheets
before being recoated or placed into service. Drying time requirements recommended by the paint
manufacturer should be followed exactly. Always refer to the relevant Product Technical Data
Sheets and working procedures for paint material.
e. Application of paint shall be applied evenly, free of runs or sags, drips, inclusions or other defects,
with no evidence of poor workmanship. Finish surfaces shall be free from defects, holidays or
blemishes. All deficiencies and defects should be corrected.

f. Each coat of paint shall have a slight variation of colour to identify it from the preceding coat. All
undercoats shall be of a colour similar to the finish coat. Finish coat colour should be as per plant
colour code scheme specified in clause no. 9.0
g. A stripe coat is applied to edges or welds on the substrate before a full coat is applied to the
entire surface if additional edge protection required. Stripe coats shall be applied by brush only.
Stripe coats must be applied as a coherent film showing good film formation and no visible
defects, such as pores or de-wetted areas.
h. It is recommended for two pack inorganic zinc rich ethyl silicate primers that one of the
subsequent coats be used as a tie coat.
3.4.5. Clean Up
Unused materials, discarded materials, spoiled materials, rags, empty paint material containers,
etc. shall be cleaned up, properly stored and removed from the job site. No debris, trash or other
such materials may be allowed to accumulate.
a. Paintings and their overspray shall NOT be applied to the faying surfaces of bolted connections,
unless it has been certified by the manufacturer to meet the requirements in AISC “Specification
for Structural Joint Using ASTM A325 or A490 Bolts” for the connection design class.
b. Paintings, including inadvertent overspray, shall be excluded from areas closer than one bolt
diameter but not less than one inch (25 mm) from the edge of the hole and areas within the bolt
pattern on structural steel faying surfaces.
a. Shop or field touch-up painting shall be the same as the specified painting material and color as
used for the original painting system. The touch-up painting shall be applied to the damaged
surface after completion of specified surface preparation and shall meet painting system
manufacturers recommendations regarding minimum surface preparation methods, surface
profile, and touch up and “re-coat” times.
b. Contractor shall ship a sufficient quantity of paint, same as used for the shop applied coats, to the
project site for use as touch-up paint.
c. Touch-up painting shall overlap the original coat by not less than 2.5 cm to ensure continuity of
the painting.
d. For surfaces which have received two coats, touch-up painting shall consist of two coats also;
such two-coat touchup shall conform to the same requirements as for two-coat painting work.

e.1. Surfaces where shop or field applied painting has been marred, scratched or otherwise
damaged, due to shipping, handling, erection, installation, weathering, etc.
e.2. Heads of the field bolts and nuts, and adjacent surfaces left uncoated in the shop.
e.3. Surfaces of field welds and adjacent surfaces left uncoated in the shop and where painting
was damaged during the welding process.
e.4. Surfaces of ferrous fasteners not otherwise protected.
e.5. Exposed fabrication, erection or shipping marks shall be cleaned off and the areas touch-up
coated to match the adjacent surfaces.
4. PAINTING SYSTEM
The plant completes with all items and surfaces except for Original Equipment Manufacturer
(OEM) supplied items shall be painted in accordance with the following schedule, unless
otherwise approved by the Purchaser/Purchaser’s Representative. Equipment Manufacturer
standard painting system can be accepted if performance & quality of painting system as good as
specified here for particular case and fulfill the specification requirement stated here. Equipment
Manufacturer shall submit a detailed of painting system for approval of Purchaser/Purchaser’s
Representative.
For painting system of OEM supplied items, please refer GT OEM Document no. AAANNNN-
XXXX-X-XXXXXXX, HRSG OEM document no. AAANNNN-XXXX-X-XXXXXXX and ST OEM
document no. AAANNNN-XXXX-X-XXXXXXX.

2 This zinc-rich paint / cold galvanizing paint is suitable for repairing damaged galvanized
coatings, provided the dried film contains a minimum of 94 percent zinc dust by weight. All
galvanized surfaces after welding shall be touched up with cold galvanizing repair compound.
The compound shall be applied in strict accordance with manufacturer's recommendation.
Example products include ZRC cold galvanizing compound or ZRC Galvilite.

5. GALVANIZING
Attention shall be paid to the detail design of structural members. Provide holes and/or lifting lugs
to facilitate handling. Provide vent holes to relieve excessive pressure and to drain excessive
zinc. Hollow areas need to be well vented. Remove all welding slag, splatter, anti-splatter
compounds and burrs prior to delivery for galvanizing. Surfaces should be free from defects to
ensure a coating of good appearance and serviceability.
Pre-clean the Work in accordance with accepted methods to produce an acceptable surface for
quality hot-dip galvanizing. The surface preparation shall in accordance with the applicable the
Society for Protective Coatings method specific in Paragraph 3.3.1. The surface of the steelwork
to be galvanized shall be free from welding slag, weld spatter, burn residue, paint, oil, grease,
surface rust, mill scale and other foreign matters as are likely to interfere with the galvanizing
process.
The minimum average coating weight shall be as per as per BS EN ISO 1461 or ASTM A 123.
The minimum mean coating mass on steel sections greater than 6 mm thick shall be 610 g/m2 is
equivalent to a minimum mean coating thickness of 85 µm. For items lower than 6mm thickness
requirement of coating thickness shall be as per relevant standard. The minimum average coating
weight for bolts, nuts and washers shall be as per as per ASTM A153/A153M-01a, ASTM F2329 /
F2329M and ASTM A394/A394M.
The coating shall be continuous and as reasonably smooth and uniform in thickness as the
weight, size, and shape of the item, and necessary handling of the item during the dipping and
draining operations at the galvanizing kettle shall permit. The distribution of the zinc coating shall
be determined by visual inspection.
Galvanized articles shall be free from uncoated areas, blisters, flux deposits, acid and black
spots, and dross inclusions. Lumps, projections, globules, or heavy deposits of zinc which shall
interfere with the intended use of the material shall not be permitted. Holes shall be clean and
reasonably free from excess zinc. The pieces shall be handled so that after galvanizing they shall
not freeze together on cooling. All sharp edges, projections, or rough surfaces resulting from the
galvanizing process shall be made smooth without affecting the coating.
The zinc coating shall withstand handling consistent with the nature and thickness of the coating
and the normal use of the article, without peeling or flaking. The galvanized coating shall
sufficiently adhere to the steel to withstand normal handling during transportation and erection.
Inspection and testing of hot-dip galvanized coatings shall be done in accordance with relevant
international standard and as per applied hot-dip galvanized standard.

The Contractor shall apply a touch-up and repair coating to any hot-dip galvanized surface that
has been marred, scratched or otherwise damaged due to any reason prior to unloading the
material at the Purchaser’s jobsite. Damage coating surfaces to be reconditioned with zinc-rich
paint (as define in Painting system no. 13) with required surface preparation as per paint
manufacture recommendation.
Work may be subject to inspection by Purchaser / Purchaser representative and Work found not
according to the requirements specified herein shall be satisfactorily redone by Contractor at no
additional cost to Purchaser.
The Contractor shall sufficiently in advance; advice the Purchaser/ Purchaser representative
when the work is ready for inspection at the following points and shall schedule his work to allow
time for these inspections:
• After surface preparation and prior to primer application
• Prior to application of each succeeding coat
• At completion
The Contractor will be responsible for the proper calibration and functioning of all its testing
measuring and calibration equipment.
Inspection of surface preparation will be based upon comparison with: “Visual Standard for
Abrasive Blast Cleaned Steel,” SSPC-Vis. 1. Anchor profile for prepared surfaces shall be
measured by use of methods A or C per ASTM D4417 or as per ISO 8503-2.
Inspection of Wet Film Thickness (WFT) shall be based on measuring the average WFT, using a
Nordson-type Wet Film Gauge, or an Interchemical-type direct reading wet film thickness gauge,
or equal. For the Nordson type gauge, not less than two applications of the gauge shall be made
in each area to be tested to determine an average wet film thickness; for the Interchemical-type
gauge, not less than two rolls of the gauge in opposite directions per the requirements of ASTM
D1212 or as per ISO 2808.
Wet-film and dry-film thickness gauges shall be made available at the Contractor’s facility for use
by Purchaser at all times until final acceptance of the coating.
Dry film thickness may also be inspected by Purchaser / Purchaser representative for verification
of coating thickness. Testing shall be performed according to ASTM D7091 or E376 or as per
non-destructive methods of ISO 2808.
Inspection of coating system adhesion to the surface shall be carried out through Adhesion Test
performed according to ASTM D3359 or D4541 or ISO 2409 or ISO 4624.
Coating shall be checked by visual assessment, e.g. for uniformity, colour, hiding power and
defects such as holidays, wrinkling, cratering, air bubbles, flaking, crack and curtains.

For surfaces subject to immersion service, finished coating systems shall be subject to “spark
testing” to confirm system integrity. The identified pinholes, holidays and defects shall be
repaired and retested.
If the required minimum DFT is not attained as determined by DFT tests, additional coating shall
be applied as required to attain the required DFT by contractor at his own expense.
All results of inspection and tests shall be recorded in the inspection and acceptance reports.
These reports shall be submitted along with completion documents.
The Contractor shall be responsible for the painting of each equipment under his contract carried
out in the workshop and on site.
Inspection of coats by the Purchaser / Purchaser representative will neither relieve the
Manufacturer of the responsibility for good quality of the paint, nor the Contractor, of his
responsibility for acquiring the specified quality of materials, nor for the correct performance of the
work. This applies also to structural steel or shop-primed equipment.
Equipment, machines and structural steel are to be protected against corrosion and damage
through the influence of weathering (tropical conditions, including the incidence of dust, sand
storms and seawater spray) during storage on site. Parts which cannot be painted and are very
sensitive to atmospherically influence must be efficiently packed for storage. Insides of equipment
and machines shall be cleaned thoroughly at works and all holes and entries shall be efficiently
sealed in order to prevent infiltration of dirt and humidity.
Treated and machined parts not to be painted shall receive a provisional corrosion protection
(stripping coat, corrosion resistant grease or other).
The Contractor shall bear the responsibility for all losses and damages that occur through
inadequate protection and shall repair or replace the parts at his cost.
The Contractor shall bear the full responsibility for paint applied by him on surfaces primed or
painted by others.
All damage of painting during the shipment and erection shall be sufficiently repainted by the
Contractor with the site coats as per approved procedure.
8. MATERIALS
All material within a protective coating system shall normally be obtained from the same
manufacturer and used in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Material shall be delivered to the site in the manufacturer's sealed containers bearing the
manufacturer's labels identifying the type and grade of the contents. Paint manufacturer’s
instructions regarding storage shall be available at site at the time of receipt of shipment.

Materials shall be stored in a safe place which shall be kept neat, clean, and protected by the
Contractor to the satisfaction of the Owner/Purchaser. Materials which have exceeded the shelf
life stated by the manufacturer shall not be used.
In case of complete vendor items, painting material might be used to item in accordance with their
standard. Vendor shall submit a detailed of paint material for approval of Purchaser/Purchaser’s
Representative.
For Zinc rich primer, the minimum zinc dust pigment content of the non-volatile portion of the paint
shall be 80% by mass (m/m) as per requirement of ISO 12944-5.

Color code scheme use for identification of piping and equipment to be installed in project shall
have a colour finish in accordance with the following schedules.

For central heating systems and other Closed circuits where it is necessary to indicate
separately, the flow and return pipes, this shall be done by the use of the word 'FLOW' or the
letter 'F' on the one pipe and the word 'RETURN' or the letter 'R' on the other.
b.3. Contents shall be identified by a legend with sufficient additional details such as temperature,
pressure, etc., as are necessary to identify the hazard and pipe tag number.
b.4. Legends shall be brief, informative, pointed, and simple for greatest effectiveness.
b.5. Legends shall be applied close to valves or flanges and adjacent to changes in direction,
branches, and where pipes pass through walls or floors; and at intervals on straight pipe runs
sufficient for identification.
b.6. A piping identification system shall be applied for the plant piping using color strips around
the pipes.
The color strips shall preferably be of an adhesive plastic material suitable for the surface
temperature of the pipe or insulation as well as for the specified ambient conditions.
Flow direction arrows and identification inscriptions shall preferably be of the same material.
Where plastic adhesive material cannot be applied, pipe identification has to be carried out
by painting.
b.7. The applicable Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals
(GHS) pictogram shall be included as part of the legend as required.

c. Visibility of Markings
Attention shall be given to visibility with reference to pipe
markings. Where pipelines are located above or below the

4. Water
The seawater intake off-shore and on-shore facilities, seawater pumping station, seawater supply
pipelines to the Site boundary, seawater intake pipelines and seawater return discharge pipelines
into the sea are Contractor responsibility and included within the scope of Works. Please refer to
Sections 7.7 and 7.20 for particular technical requirements.
Reference is made to Part B.5.1 (Basic Info) of Appendix 2 of the EPC Contract which provides on
a for information basis certain data for seawater conditions obtained from SEZAD for a separate
seawater intake project. Contractor may use such data and information for conducting its own due
diligence.
The Contractor shall be responsible for determining prevailing seawater conditions and analysis at
the Site to verify the design basis for the Plant.
Details of seawater analysis and seawater temperature which was undertaken by SEZAD and
Marafiq in the period of October 2014 and until January 2015, may be taken by the Contractor as a
guide for conditions at Duqm and are given for information purposes only. Such data can be found
in the documents Marine and Coastal Environmental Report (SEZAD) and Seawater Inlet
Conditions (SEZAD) which are included in Part B.5.1 (Basic Info) of Appendix 2 of the EPC
Contract.
In addition, water quality and sediment survey at the Project Site was carried out by Nusail Surveys
in December 2014 (Nusail Surveys, 2014. Parsons International & Co. LLC, Water and Sediment
Quality Report). Excerpts of such survey are included for information in Part B.5.1.5.4.2 of
Appendix 2 of the EPC Contract.
Desalinated water quality delivered to Duqm Refinery at the relevant Water Delivery Point shall be
as follows:
The interface conditions for desalinated water supply to the Duqm Refinery (location, pressure,
number of pipeline) is already clarified between Marafiq and DRPIC and agreed on as per
Document “DRP001-FED-IFD-U-000-003, Rev D6”. Such data is included in Part B.5.1 (Basic Info)
of Appendix 2 of the EPC Contract.
