Melodic Paraphrase

Assignment No.3: Due in Class Tuesday 1/28/14 11-12:30pm

On the standard ‘All Of Me’ arrange for trumpet and alto saxophone. Treat this as two unique
versions specific for each instrument, so the two versions will look and sound different from
each other. Use techniques 1-8 (no alternate time signatures for now).

For this assignment, I would suggest focusing on Techniques 1 through 5 first, getting your
rhythms and notes perfect, then work with techniques 6 through 8.

Following these parameters:

• Using the standard key of C (but the parts need to be transposed)

• Arrange two versions for alto saxophone and trumpet (two different arrangements that
adhere the sound and limits each instrument)
• Tempo will be quarter note equals 106
• Use music engraving or by hand.
• Include time and key signatures, chord changes, title, compeer arranger, name and date.
• The finished assignment will be two sheets, one for alto and one for trumpet.
• Make about 10 copies for the class: please do this the night before or way early before the
class.

Things to consider for all assignments:

• I would suggest doing your creative/draft work in pencil, and when you think it is perfect,
do the 'copy work' last.
• If you miss this class your work is still due via email or through BlackBoard on the due
dates listed above. No exception!

Assignment & Grading Criteria:

As with all assignments, I will grade on completing the work on time, accuracy and neatness/
legibility. If you are absent from class I will need notice (latest) the night before the class, but
your assignments are still due via email or through a third party. For the class, your ultimate
grade will be based on an average of all assignments, attendances and the final.
