Housing
• Housing generally refers to the social
problem of ensuring that members of society
have a home in which to live.
• (whether this is a house, or some other kind
of dwelling, lodging, or shelter)
• Many governments have a department that
deals with housing.
• United States Department of Housing and
Urban Development.
• Housing Development Board in Singapore and
Housing Authority in Hong Kong.

• Housing is a modern concept.
• It deals not only with the physical structure
• Deals with immediate surroundings and
related community services and facilities.

Housing –Definition

• All places in which a group of people reside


and pursue their life goals.
• This includes –Residential environment
• Physical structure and services
• and socio psychological aspects
• Household refers to one person who lives
alone or a group of people who live together
in a housing unit.
• Housing development refers to houses and
apartments that are built and managed in
groups or small communities.
