Asian Health Institute (AHI) is a Japanese NGO committed to supporting the marginalized people
of Asia through human resource development since 1980.
COURSE FOCUS & CHARACTERISTICS

FOCUS
For promoting people’s participation and collaboration in
local governance, the following questions will be considered;

- What specific strategies are effective?


- How can people’s initiatives and experiences in health
sector be extended to other development issues?
- Conversely, how can experiences in other sectors be
applied in health?

PRINCIPLES AND METHODS

This course applies participatory training methodology.


1. LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THROUGH GROUP PROCESS
This is NOT a technical or theoretical course on how to advance one’s career as a leader or manager.
Participants will learn through working together on case studies of concrete field experience, workshops,
learning exercises, small group discussions and exposure visits, etc.

2. PARTICIPANTS AS FACILITATORS
Details of the schedule, contents and methods will
be planned by the participants with AHI facilitators.

3. LIVE-IN STYLE TRAINING IN


INTER-CULTURAL SETTING
Sharing in session and through living together in
AHI is integral part of the course.

PARTICIPANTS/APPLICANTS
Twelve persons will be selected considering the variety of country, combination and matching of
participants’ expectations, etc.
To qualify the course, applicants must have:
* at least 5 years of field experience working in community-based health and development
programs and marginalized areas.
* extensive experience in community organizing /PO formation.
Primary participants are NGO workers. NGO applicant may invite a qualified PO leader or/and
government worker who has been working in the same project toward a common goal.
