Relationship between computer games and technical skills of G12 Students

Introduction

Computer games are type of games developed technologically, it is a computer-

controlled game where players interact with object being displayed on a computer screen.

There can be different types of computer games or they use other methods in order to be

played such as sound or vibration which can be used as a feedback device, or console

games where players use controllers.

As of today’s time, a lot of people are spending more of their free time playing

computer games, more specifically, students. Although there are many benefits to playing

quality computer games, a person can also be affected negatively, though its effects may

vary from person to person.

Technical skills refer to the ability or expertise of a person that is needed to

accomplish complex tasks and processes or situations relating to analytical,

computational as well as technological. Those who have technical skills can be referred

to as technicians, with the expression referring to audio technicians, electronics

technicians, market technicians, computer technicians, engineering technicians and a

variety of other designations.

For years, people have thought that computer games only have bad effects such

as bad behavior towards other people, depression, and other health conditions. Although

studies have also proven this to be true, there are benefits on playing computer games.

The very nature of computer games forces gamers to think quickly. Especially, action

games that demand the user to apply quick decisions. Students who play computer

games, when they are presented with unusual situations, tend to work things out instantly.

This process does not only improve their critical thinking, but also teaches them to try to

solve a problem in a different perspective. Medical students who spent a lot of time playing

action-filled video games in their youth have an advantage: they operate quicker, and

make fewer mistakes (Rosser Jr. et al., 2005).

Playing computer games has its effects, may it be negative or positive. Although

studies have proven that it has negative effects, it does not mean that no one benefits

from doing so. Above statements prove that it also has positive effects. For those who

play computer games, their technical skills were improved compared to those who does

not. The skills of students who play computer games are enhanced thus preparing them

for a new tomorrow.

Statement of the Problem

This research aims to determine the relationship between computer games and

technical skills of Grade 12 Students.

1. What is the genre of the computer game?

2. What technical skill of the student improved by playing computer games?


Scope and Delimitation

The researchers have composed a study that covers the topic of relationship

between computer games and technical skills of a student. The main focus of the study

is about how playing computer games affects one’s technical skills. The respondents of

this study are the Grade 12 Senior High School Students of Rogationist College.

On the contrary, this study does not have other effects aside from the main point.

The main point of this study will only be about the relationship between computer games

and technical skills of the Grade 12 Students of Rogationist College.
