COURSE SYLLABUS

SUBJECT: MED O1 -EDUCATIONAL LEADERSHIP AND CREATIVE STRATEGIES


IN EDUCATION

CREDIT: 3 UNITS

I. COURSE DESCRIPTION
Educational Leadership is a three-unit course for graduate and professional studies which is
designed to explain the essence of an effective leader. This course would give a solid foundation on what
leadership is and can hone the teachers’ skill to turn them into effective leaders in their respective schools.
Knowledge on this is very important to you as would be school managers as identified as the lead
implementers of school based management as provided for in the R.A. 9155. This course also provides with
preparation in skills for providing purpose and direction for individuals and groups, shaping school culture
and value, and facilitating the development of shared strategic vision for the school, formulating goals
and planning change efforts with staff, and setting priorities for one’s school in the context of community
and district priorities for student and staff needs

II. COURSE OBJECTIVES

After the completion of this course, graduate students shall be able to:
1. Demonstrate a basic understanding of the leadership theory literature discussed in class;
2. Recognize, analyze, and evaluate a broad range of current issues associated with educational
leadership;
3. Describe, discuss and assess leadership traits, behaviors and styles;
4. Create a vision and establish a climate for teachers, non – teaching personnel and learners to reach
their highest level of achievement;
5. Provide a knowledge base in the supervision of instruction, curriculum and the analysis of the
capacity of the K-12 curriculum;
6. Demonstrate a working knowledge and the ability to apply various decision-making, problem
solving, and conflict resolution techniques;
7. Set high standards and create high expectations for learners at the same time recognize their
achievement;
8. Develop the skills and talents of teachers and includes the nurturing and supporting of a learning
community that recruits teachers based on NCBTS and promotes the continuous growth and
development of personnel based on their IPPD and SPPD;
9. Engage in shared decision making with the community in achieving universal participation,
completion and functional literacy;
10. Manage the implementation and monitoring of the school’s improvement plan/annual
implementation plan; and
11. Be a model of professionalism and ethical and moral leadership.
