and orthopaedics are diverse and found in a
variety of settings within secondary care.

2. Registered Nurse
3. Ward/Unit/Department Manager
4. Pre-assessment Nurse
5. Clinical Nurse Specialist
6. Nurse Practitioner
7. Trauma Co-ordinator
8. Surgical Care Practitioner
9. Consultant Nurse.
 The role of advanced Nurse

improvement

education and training.
 The role is structured around
four core functions:
1. Expert clinical practice
2. Education, training and development
3. Professional leadership and consultancy
4. Practice and service development,
research and evaluation.
The role in Nurse for Elektive Surgery
1. Pre-operative assessment and physical examination
2. Assisting with preparation of patients for surgery
3. Assisting with surgical procedures in the operating
theatre under the supervision and direction of the
operating surgeon
4. Being first or second assistant at operations
5. Ordering of pre and post-operative investigations as
part of the multi-professional team
6. Post-operative care e.g. wound assessment.
