Properties of Pig iron, steel and wrought iron

The given table discusses a few properties of pig iron, steel and wrought iron. The melting point,
weldability, magnetization and tempering are the properties compared. The melting point of pig
iron is 1000*C while the melting point of steel ranges from 1300*C-1400*C and that of wrought
iron is 1539*C. Pig iron cannot be welded whereas steel and wrought iron can be welded. Pig
iron cannot be magnetized. Though both steel and wrought iron can be magnetized, wrought
iron can be magnetized only temporarily, whereas steel can be magnetized permanently.
Wrought iron cannot be tempered whereas both pig iron and steel can be tempered.
II. Study the flow chart and describe the various steps involved before pure water is
distributed to the consumers.

Screening

Sedimentation aided with coagulation

Filtration (microbes)

Chlorination

Distribution of water

The given flow chart describes the various steps involved in the purification of water before it is
distributed to the consumers. Water form lakes, rivers, ponds and reservoirs is used as drinking
water. At first, the water from these sources is screened. The screened water is sent for
sedimentation. In this process coagulants are added to purify water. After sedimentation the
water is filtered to remove microbes. Next, the filtered water is treated with chlorine. The
chlorinated water is sent to storage tanks. The water from the storage tank is distributed to the
consumers.
