Organized by:
 The BSP JÚNIOR FESTIVAL and the Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa (BSP) present the 2nd
International Masterclass of Conducting with the British conductor DOUGLAS BOSTOCK. The
Masterclass is open to conductors of all nationalities, and the course will be held in English. The
conducting sessions will be with the professional BSP Ensemble. All parts of the Masterclass are
mandatory for active participants. Attendance at Maestro Bostock’s rehearsals and concert with
BSP JÚNIOR A-Orchestra are open to active participants of the Masterclass.

About the maestro

The British conductor Douglas Bostock is Principal Conductor of the Argovia
Philharmonic in Switzerland (since 2001) and Music Director of the Hallwyl Opera Festival (since
2003). He previously held positions with the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra (Principal
Conductor), the Munich Symphony Orchestra (Principal Guest Conductor), the Czech Chamber
Philharmonic (Principal Guest Conductor), the Southwest German Philharmonic (Regular Guest
Conductor), and Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra (Principal Conductor & Principal Guest
Conductor).

Douglas Bostock has conducted many of the leading European, North American and Asian
orchestras, including the London Philharmonic, the BBC orchestras, Royal Philharmonic, Prague
Radio Symphony, Prague Symphony, Aarhus Symphony, New Japan Philharmonic, Kyoto
Symphony, Sapporo Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, National Chamber Orchestra, State of
Mexico Symphony Orchestra, and the Calgary Philharmonic. He has appeared at such
prestigious international venues and festivals as BBC Proms, Vienna Konzerthaus, Suntory Hall,
Royal Festival Hall, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tonhalle Zurich, Prague Spring Festival, Herkulessaal
Munich, Leipzig Gewandhaus and Ravinia Festival.

A prolific recording artist, Douglas Bostock has over 100 CDs to his name, reflecting his diverse
and extensive repertoire, and including many less well-known and previously unrecorded works.
His major recording cycles of the complete orchestral music of Carl Nielsen and the symphonies
of Robert Schumann, as well as the extensive British Symphonic Collection, have won
international acclaim.

Douglas Bostock is renowned internationally as a teacher of conducting. He has been Guest

Professor in the conducting and opera departments at Tokyo University of the Arts, where he
has a long-standing relationship. His conducting master classes in many countries are widely
acclaimed and enjoy great popularity. Furthermore, keenly embracing the challenge of working
with young musicians, he is frequently invited to conduct at conservatoires in Europe and Asia
and is Visiting Professor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Japan.

Inscription
Inscriptions must be made by 30/06/2019.

Announcement of the active participants will be made by 03/07/2019.

The application for the Conducting Masterclass is by e-mail (apply to

conductingbspjunior@gmail.com) and should include:

(1) a CV with the details of the musical education and conducting experience

(2) a repertoire list (conducted main works)

(3) a link to a short video, 5 to 10 minutes of the applicant conducting (preferably from the
front), made within the last 18 months.

The participation in all conducting masterclass sessions is mandatory for active participants.
Successful conducting applications will be notified by 02/07/2019 and should send transfer
payment receipt to the inscription e-mail by 05/07/2019, under risk of exclusion if the payment
is not made in full. Unselected candidates applications may choose to be passive participants,
by paying the passive participation fee.

Fees
Active participation- 450.00€ (limited vacancies, includes accommodation from August 27 to
30 and meals) 350.00€ (without accommodation, includes meals)

Passive participation- 1 day 30.00€, 3 days 75.00€

(includes meals – accommodation can be organized at additional cost)
