Blower

I can't find a picture on the net. I am familiar with this type of black smiths forge blower
because as a kid I used to crank the handle as my father belted a piece of steel in to shape.

It needs a sprocket with a sprague clutch in the middle of the sprocket. The idea is to use a
foot treadle that pulls on a length of bicycle chain which is spring loaded pulling the chain
over the sprocket. On the other end of the chain you fit a hinged foot pedal. The sprocket
would go on the shaft containing the crank handle. It mabe that if you wish to retain the
handle an adaptor would need to be fabricsted as the sprocket would have to be between the
handle and the blower housing. Lile this you could use the handle because the sprague
clutch (like a freewheel on a bicycle) would allow the shaft to still turn inside thr sprocket.
When the treadle is operated it pulls the sprocket around via the chain and would also turn
the handle and blower. When you release the treadle the spring will pull the treadle up and
return the sprocket to the start position. A piece of rack and a gear pinion with a central
sprague clutch would operate similar manner.
