Group Case Study

DUE: July 23, 2019 (20%)

The case study is designed to provide your group with a real life situation that was
experienced in an organization, and to allow you to apply the theory from the course to
this applied problem. The case study should read like a report or document that you
would provide to the senior management team of TD Bank. In other words, it should read
as a single document rather than several documents pasted together at the last minute. A
one page executive summary, general introduction, table of contents and references
should all be contained in the document.

Although you will use the text and lecture material to address the questions and support
your arguments, you can seek out information from the library to assist you in generating
your responses. Please use credible sources such as journal articles, books and
research reports. Internet searches may yield some useful information but DO NOT
base your answers on anything unsubstantiated from the Web. Cite the website if you
use this material. A footnote explaining why the Website is a credible source is required
for every web citation. Also, I DO NOT want to see citations to trade magazines (e.g.,
Heating and Cooling Weekly, Accounting Today, etc.). Failure to follow these
instructions will result in significant grade reductions.
Suggested Journals:
 Journal of Applied Psychology
 Harvard Business Review
 Academy of Management Journal
 Academy of Management Behavior
 Journal of Organizational Behavior
 Journal of Organizational and Occupational Psychology

All of these journals are available online and articles can be found by searching in the
PsychInfo database (follow the link below). The UTM website has excellent on-line
resources to help you in conducting searches and valuable tips for writing effectively.
Please consult the following website and/or the UTM Library staff for assistance in
conducting searches: http://main.library.utoronto.ca/eir/resources.cfm?T=I

Include a reference page (using APA style at the end of your paper to list all of the
sources you used. All research used must be cited using the last name of the author(s) and
the year of publication (e.g., Scott, 2006) in the body of your paper. Include a full citation
in APA style on the reference page.
The format of your assignment should adhere to the following specifications:
1. Text at 12 pt. font (Times New Roman); double-spaced
2. All margins set at 1".
3. Your name, ID # and lecture number appear within the set margins on the top
right corner of the page.
4. All sources that are used in your assignment should be cited in the text according
to APA format and a reference page should be provided at the end of the
document.

Citing a source in the body of the report

Leadership has been found to be related to extroversion (McKenna & Wright, 2005).

OR

Referencing the source in a reference list

Psychology, 21, (2), 211-233.

Case Study Assignment:

Please respond to the following questions. The total case study SHOULD NOT exceed
15 pages of text plus any number of graphs, tables, etc. as required.
1. Discuss the problems associated with the MIP in terms of its design and
implementation, keeping in mind such concepts as:

 Motivation
 Learning
 Job Satisfaction
 Communication
 Decision Making
 Organizational Justice
 Performance Management

(Do not write an answer that contains different subsections for each of the concepts listed
above. Rather, try to integrate your answer to address the concepts and the interplay
between them as a whole.)

2. In light of the problems you identified, prepare a detailed plan for revamping
(recreating) the MIP program. Be sure to address each of the issues identified in
question 1 to create a new incentive program for TD Bank. At a minimum, your
plan should include changes to the selection criteria, selection process, award
administration and communication.

Grading: I will be looking for the thoroughness of your answers, the extent to which you
draw upon relevant Organizational Behaviour theories to assess the problems and suggest
solutions, originality and creativity, grammar, and flow of the report. Plagiarism will not
be tolerated.

The report must read like a comprehensive document. I will deduct marks if there are any
discrepancies across the report (e.g., if different writers contradict each other) and if the
quality of writing varies.
