Note: It is noted from above reactions that total reaction due to 70R (W) is more than 70R (T), moveover horizontal force due to beaking would be less in case of 70 R (T)
Further it is noted that total reaction of 3 Lane Class A is less than 70R + Cl A, moreover horizontal force due to breaking would be less in case of 3 Lane Class A
Therefore detail design is carried out for Class 70 R (W) + Class A only

Area at start of varying portion = 2.6 x 11.5 = 29.9 m2

Area at end of varying portion = 1.2 x 6.7 = 8.04 m2

Volume of varying portion = ( 29.9 + 8.04 + sqrt( 240.396 )/3* 0.60 = 10.689 m3

Area of Pier shaft at top = 1.200 x 6.500 + pi()/4 0.000 ^2 = 7.800 m2

Area of Pier shaft at bottom = 1.200 x 6.500 + pi()/4 0.000 ^2 = 7.800 m2

Volume of varying portion = ( 7.800 + 7.800 + sqrt( 60.840 )/3* 9.27 = 72.2748 m3

(iii) Pile Cap

Total volume of Pile cap = 7.300 x 7.300 x 1.500 = 79.935 m^3

(iv) Volume of Overburden Earth Below LBL

Total Volume = 7.300 x 7.300 x 0.439 = 23.39 m^3

WIND LOAD ANALYSIS

1. Wind Analaysis is carried out considering terrain as plain

2. Basic wind speed at proposed ROB = 47 m/s

Mean wind speed upto 10m = 39.594 m/sec

at 10m = 39.594 m/sec
at 15m = 41.588 m/sec
Therefore at 13m = 40.790 m/sec

Intensity Pressure upto 10m = 0.941 kN/m2

at 10m = 0.941 kN/m2
at 15m = 1.040 kN/m2
Therefore at 13m = 1.000 kN/m2

Note: As per clause 209.3.7, Wind speed for Live Load shall be considered as 36m/s.

Pressure on Live Load at 13m = 0.587 kN/m2

For Superstructure
Area of exposed surface (32m span) A1 = 50.48 m2
Area of exposed surface (22m span) = 30.8 m2
Gust Factor G = 2.0
Drag Coefficient CD = 2.15

Transverse wind force FT = PZ x A 1 x G x C D

PZ = 0.970 kN/m2

For Superstructure (32m span) FT = 210.62 kN

Acting at = 244.976 m RL

For Superstructure (22m span) FT = 128.51 kN

Acting at = 245.191 m RL

For Live Load

Area of exposed surface (32m span) A1 = 48 m2
(22m span) = 33 m2
Gust Factor G = 2.0
Drag Coefficient CD = 1.2

PZ = 1.020 kN/m2

(32m span) FT = 67.586 kN

Acting at = 247.16 m RL

(22m span) FT = 46.466 kN

Acting at = 247.16 m RL

For Pier Cap

Area of exposed surface A1 = 2.6 m2
Gust Factor G = 2.0
Drag Coefficient CD = 1.4

PZ = 0.941 kN/m2
FT = 6.848 kN
Acting at = 243.466 m RL

For Pier Shaft

Area of exposed surface A1 = 10.59 m2
Gust Factor G = 2.0
Drag Coefficient CD = 1.4

PZ = 0.941 kN/m2

FT = 27.897 kN

Provision Of Binders and Ties

Sangrur Bypass ROB/PIER/55 429234960.xls

Design Calculation SHAFT

As per clause 306.3.2 the diameter of transverse reinforcement of any type should not be less than one
quarter the diameter of the largest longitudinal bar in the column and in no case less than 8 mm

The diameter of the main longitudinal bar is 25 mm, hence required dia. of transverse reinforcement is 8 mm
However provide 10 mm dia binders and ties.

As per clause 306.3.3 of IRC: 21- 2000 the pitch of transverse reinforcement should not exceed

(i) 300 mm
(ii) The least lateral dimension of the column = 1200 mm
(iii) 12 times the dia of the smallest longitudinal bar = 192.00 mm

As per cl. 7.4.8 of IS 13920

Area of bar to be used as special confinement renorcement shall not be less than
Ash= .18 S h fck/fy (Ag/Ak-1)
S spacingof hoops= 100.00 mm
Ash = 128.41 < 201.14

As per cl.710.3.4of IRC:78-2000

0.25 % of the cross sectional area = 0.25 x 1000.00 x 1200.00 = 3000.00 mm^2
100
This is provided at both faces equally, so area on each face = 1500.00 mm^2

Provided 16 mm dia bars @ 125 mm spacing, so Area Provided = 1608 mm^2 > 1500 mm^2 (OK)

Provide # 10 mm ties with each alternate Longitudnal Bar in Pier Shaft

The Depth of Fixity for Pile has been determined by Cl 5.5.2 & appendix - C of IS : 2911 part-I sec-II

Youngs Modulus E = 5000 x sqrt(fck) = 29580398.92 kN/m2 (fck = 35 Mpa)

hh = 2600 kN/m3 (Correcponding to minimum SPT value of 18 & considering saturated Soil)

R = 3.54 m

L1 = 0 m (No scour)

L1/R = 0.000

Therefore Lf/R = 2.190 (as per Fig-2 of IS: 2911 part-I Sec-II)
Lf = 2.190 x 3.54 = 7.760 m

Therefore L1 + Lf = 7.760 m 775.97 cm

Design Calculation Pile Shaft

Structural Design of Pile Shaft at depth of fixity

For the design of pile , direct compressive stress and compressive bending stresses are calculated and then the safety of section is checked as
per Clause 306.5.3 (i) and Clause 306.5.3(ii) of IRC:21-2000. In case, the resultant tension due to direct compression and bending is greater than
the value specified in Table-11 of IRC:21-2000, the section shall be deemed to have cracked in the region of tension and the maximum stresses in
concrete and steel shall then be found according to theory of cracked section as mentioned in "Design of a Reinforced Concrete Section Subject to
Combined Axial Thrust and Any-Axis Bending - Simplified Practical Method " in " Concrete Bridge Design Practice by V.K.Raina. One photocopy of
reference cited above is being enclosed herewith.

Sangrur Bypass ROB/PIER/89 429234960.xls

Design Calculation Pier_cap

2 / 3 d' = (2 / 3 ) x 1108
= 739.00 mm

Diameter of Stirrup Bar = 12 mm

Area of one bar = 226.19 mm2

No. of layers of Stirrups = 3 nos.

Spacing of Stirrups = 185 mm

No. of legs of stirrups = 2

A h provided = 226.2 x 3 x 2
= 1357.17 mm2 > Ah R/F is adequate

So we provide 2 legged. 12 mm diameter bars as horizontal stirrups in 3 layers per meter width

Vertical Steel ( Closed Stirrups) " A v "

Av = 17.99 mm2

A v /m = 6.90 mm2 /m

Diameter of Stirrup Bar = 10 mm

Area of one bar = 78.54 mm2

Pitch = 200 mm

Sangrur Bypass ROB/PIER/90 429234960.xls

Design Calculation Pier_cap

No. of legs of stirrups = 2

A h provided = 78.54 x 2
= 157.08 mm2 > Av R/F is adequate

So we provide 2 legged. 10 mm diameter bars as vertical stirrups at 200 mm spacing per meter width
This is same reinforcement which has been provided in other direction.
