Have you ever written a curriculum vitae? The first thing to remember is that ideas about what makes a
good CV differ from country to country. In the UK, it is generally accepted that a CV should be well
presented on one side of a good quality A4 paper. The first objective is to sell yourself for the job you want.
You should think about the specific job on offer and include all relevant experience. Don’t use exactly the
same CV for every job you apply for. Secondly, your CV should always be clear and easy to read. The third
point is to make sure that your personal details, like name, address and telephone number appear at the top of
the document. Fourthly, put your qualifications and jobs in reverse, which means that the most recent
appears first in the list. Finally, always remember to check your CV for spelling and grammatical mistakes. It
is not going to impress an employer if you can’t write correctly. You should emphasize your special abilities
both in the work place and outside. Also mention any relevant hobbies such as team sport and voluntary
work you do. This helps to give an idea of your personality.
