SUMMARY

Willobi is a tin ore washing device that separates concentrates and middling based
on gravity concentration. Willobi operation is influenced by the amount of water
flowing vertically which will divide the material into two types, namely concentrate
and middling. However, the concentrations of willobi concentrates have recently
been below 65%, consequently the willobi washing recovery has been low.
This study aims to analyze the actual recovery of the results of the tin ore washing
process at willobi, analyze the use of water discharge at the jig for recovery of tin
ore, and find out the appropriate water discharge is applied to produce high recovery
of tin ore.
In the actual condition the average water discharge used in willobi is 2.582,56
cm3/s, the recovery generated is 80,16%, the average mineral content of cassiterite
is 63,98%, and the average water demand for each operation is 9,30 m3/hour.
To optimize the performance of willobi, an experiment was conducted 6 (six) times,
to determine the right water flow so that recovery can increase. The relationship
between water discharge and recovery is inversely proportional, the greater the
water discharge, the smaller the recovery of tin ore. Based on the 6 experiments
conducted, there were 2 (two) trials of water discharge which produced cassiterite
levels above 65% (fulfilling the requirements for metallurgical extraction). The
experiment was found in the 3rd experiment with a water discharge of 1.826,48
cm3/sec resulting in cassiterite levels of 66,69% and recovery of 93,23%, and the
4th experiment with a water discharge of 2.449,35 cm3/sec yielding Cassiterite
levels were 67,70% and recovery was 85,00%. Because the recovery of tin ore in
the 3rd experiment is higher than the 4th experiment, the optimal water discharge to
be applied to willobi is 1.826,46 cm3/sec. Setting the right water discharge can
prevent material losses and reduce the concentrations that come out through the
middling channel so that the washing process becomes more effective.

Keywords: willobi, recovery, cassiterite levels, optimization, and water discharge.
