FTII gets AICTE nod for 5 courses
NEW DELHI: Five courses
of the Film and Television
Institute of India (FTII),
Pune, have been given
approval by the All India
Council for Technical Edu-
cation.
The approval makes In-
dia’s premier film school,
FTII, the first and only
institute in this category
in the country to receive
such recognition.
A list of institutions
and approved courses pub-
lished by the AICTE, un-
der its newly-constituted
category pertaining to in-
stitutes offering courses
in applied arts, crafts and
design, includes FTII and
all its five one-year Post
Graduate Certificate cours-
es, an official statement
said.
Of the five FTII cours-
es which have received
AICTE approval, four are
in television wing (direc-
tion, electronic cinema-
tography, video editing,
and sound recording and
TV engineering) and one
in film wing (feature film
screenplay writing),
it said.
“This is a historic
moment for the FTII to
have received AICTE
approval for all five
PG Certificate courses.
This makes FTII the
first film school in
India to receive this
recognition,” Chair-
man of FTII Governing
Council Brijendra Pal
Singh said.
In the recent years,
FTII’s television courses
have been in the limelight
winning several National
awards and even interna-
tional honours. The AICTE
approval lends more value
to the TV courses making
them as attractive as the
film wing specializations,
he said.

HYD varsity gets 55,600 online
applications for courses
HYDERABAD: The number
of applicants for the Uni-
versity of Hyderabad (UoH)
has gone up this year and
women are in majority
among the applicants.
The top-ranking central
university has received
about 55,600 applications
online for the various
courses for the year 2019-
20. Last year, the number of
applicants was 52,000-plus.
There were 22,184 gen-
eral category applications
while 18,530 came from
Other Backward Classes.
Out of total applicants,
27,148 are males and
28,448 women. There are
also four
transgenders
among those
applied.
Entrance
exams will
be held from
May 27 to 31
at 31 centres
across the
country. There are 2,220
seats being offered for ad-
missions to 120 courses.
This includes 16 integrated
courses, 42 PG courses, 14
M Phil, 9 M Tech and 39
Ph D programmes.

centre at ITI-Becharaji, in
Gujarat, that can provide
training to over 7,000 train-

was set up in collaboration
with the Gujarat govern-
ment and will be used to
train and improve the level
of technical education of
ITI students of the state
and effectively contribute
to the Skill India initiative,”

up as part of the initiative
to impart relevant skill
training and benefit youth
in the growing automobile
industry making them job
ready, the company said.
The CoE will cater to
