PREPARATION OF EXISTING SURFACE
ONE LAYER OF CONCRETE CLASS SHALL BE PLACED AT THE PREPARED BED PRIOR TO PLACING OF STONES.
CLEARANCE BETWEEN STONES SHALL NOT BE LESS THAN 2-1/2 INCHES OR THE MAXIMUM SIZE OF CONCRETE AGGREGATE FOR
THE EXISTING SURFACE SHALL BE GRADED AND FINISHED AS PROVIDED UNDER ITEM 105, SUBGRADE PREPARATION,
A. REMOVAL OF ACTUAL STRUCTURES/OBSTRUCTION BEFORE PLACING THE SUBBASE MATERIAL.

THE AGGREGATE SUBBASE MATERIAL SHALL BE PLACED AT A UNIFORM

THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM THE WORK DESCRIBED ABOVE, WITHIN AND ADJACENT TO THE ROADWAY, ON
GOVERNMENT LAND OR EASEMENT, AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. ALL DESIGNATED SALVABLE THE PLACING OF MATERIAL SHALL BEGIN AT THE POINT DESIGNATED BY THE ENGINEER. PLACING SHALL BE FROM P. HAND-LAID ROCK EMBANKMENT
MATERIAL SHALL BE REMOVED, WITHOUT UNNECESSARY DAMAGE, IN SECTIONS OR PIECES WHICH MAY BE READILY VEHICLES ESPECIALLY EQUIPPED TO DISTRIBUTE THE MATERIAL IN A CONTINUOUS UNIFORM LAYER OR WINDROW. THE LAYER

SMALLER THAN THE MINIMUM STONE SIZE SPECIFIED IN SECTION 506.2, MATERIAL REQUIREMENTS, SHALL BE USED TO
NONPERISHABLE MATERIAL MAY BE DISPOSED OFF OUTSIDE THE LIMITS OF VIEW FROM THE PROJECT WITH WRITTEN CHECK THE LARGER STONES SOLIDLY IN POSITION AND TO SUBSTANTIALLY FILL VOIDS BETWEEN THE MAJOR STONES AS LAID
PERMISSION OF THE PROPERTY OWNER ON WHOSE PROPERTY THE MATERIAL IS PLACED. COPIES OF ALL AGREEMENTS WITH WHEN HAULING IS DONE OVER PREVIOUSLY PLACED MATERIAL, HAULING EQUIPMENT SHALL BE DISPERSED UNIFORMLY

PROPERTY OWNERS ARE TO BE FURNISHED TO THE ENGINEER. BASEMENTS OR CAVITIES LEFT BY THE STRUCTURE REMOVAL MORE THAN 150 MM, BEYOND THE NEAT LINES SHOWN ON THE PLANS OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER.
SHALL BE FILLED WITH ACCEPTABLE MATERIAL TO THE LEVEL OF THE SURROUNDING GROUND AND, IF WITHIN THE PRISM OF
CONSTRUCTION, SHALL BE COMPACTED TO THE REQUIRED DENSITY. SPREADING AND COMPACTING

SCARRED SURFACE OF TREES OR SHRUBS SELECTED FOR RETENTION SHALL BE AN APPROVED ASPHALTUM BASE PAINT

BY MEANS OF APPROVED COMPACTION EQUIPMENT. ROLLING SHALL PROGRESS GRADUALLY FROM THE SIDES TO THE CENTER, BEFORE BEING STAINED. THE FIRST COAT SHALL BE THOROUGHLY DRY BEFORE THE SECOND IS APPLIED. STAIN SHALL NOT BE

WHEN THERE IS EVIDENCE OF DISCREPANCIES ON THE ACTUAL ELEVATIONS AND THAT SHOWN ON THE PLANS, A TAMPERS OR COMPACTORS.
PRE-CONSTRUCTION SURVEY REFERRED TO THE DATUM PLANE USED IN THE APPROVED PLAN SHALL BE UNDERTAKEN BY THE
CONTRACTOR UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE ENGINEER TO SERVE AS BASIS FOR THE COMPUTATION OF THE ACTUAL VOLUME IF THE LAYER OF SUBBASE MATERIAL, OR PART THEREOF, DOES NOT CONFORM TO THE REQUIRED FINISH, THE
OF THE EXCAVATED MATERIALS. ALL EXCAVATIONS SHALL BE FINISHED TO REASONABLY SMOOTH AND UNIFORM SURFACES. NO CONTRACTOR SHALL, AT HIS OWN EXPENSE, MAKE THE NECESSARY CORRECTIONS.
MATERIALS SHALL BE WASTED WITHOUT AUTHORITY OF THE ENGINEER. EXCAVATION OPERATIONS SHALL BE CONDUCTED SO
THAT MATERIAL OUTSIDE OF THE LIMITS OF SLOPES WILL NOT BE DISTURBED. PRIOR TO EXCAVATION, ALL NECESSARY COMPACTION OF EACH LAYER SHALL CONTINUE UNTIL A FIELD DENSITY OF AT LEAST 100 PERCENT OF THE MAXIMUM DRY
CLEARING AND GRUBBING IN THAT AREA SHALL HAVE BEEN PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH ITEM 100, CLEARING AND DENSITY DETERMINED IN ACCORDANCE WITH AASHTO T 180, METHOD D HAS BEEN ACHIEVED. IN-PLACE DENSITY
GRUBBING. DETERMINATION SHALL BE MADE IN ACCORDANCE WITH AASHTO T 191.

D. STRUCTURE FOR EXCAVATION (COMMON SOIL) H. PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT

QUALITY CONTROL OF CONCRETE


GENERAL, ALL STRUCTURES. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER SUFFICIENTLY IN ADVANCE OF THE

EQUIPMENT
EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS NECESSARY FOR HANDLING MATERIALS AND PERFORMING ALL PARTS OF THE WORK SHALL BE
AFTER EACH EXCAVATION IS COMPLETED, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER TO THAT EFFECT AND NO
APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER AS TO DESIGN, CAPACITY AND MECHANICAL CONDITION. THE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE AT THE
FOOTING, BEDDING MATERIAL OR PIPE CULVERT SHALL BE PLACED UNTIL THE ENGINEER HAS APPROVED THE DEPTH OF
JOBSITE SUFFICIENTLY AHEAD OF THE START OF CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS TO BE EXAMINED THOROUGHLY AND

THE PROPER ELEVATION BY MEANS OF A PROPERLY DESIGNED MACHINE EXTENDING THE PREPARED WORK AREAS
THREE-QUARTERS OF THE VERTICAL INSIDE DIAMETER OF THE PIPE. THE WIDTH OF THE EXCAVATION SHALL BE AT LEAST 300
COMPACTED AT LEAST 60 CM BEYOND EACH EDGE OF THE PROPOSED CONCRETE PAVEMENT. IF LOSS OF DENSITY RESULTS

CONTRACTOR UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE ENGINEER TO SERVE AS BASIS FOR THE COMPUTATION OF THE ACTUAL VOLUME THE CONCRETE MAY BE MIXED AT THE SITE OF THE WORK IN A CENTRAL-MIX PLANT, OR IN TRUCK MIXERS. THE MIXER

APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER AS TO DESIGN, CAPACITY AND MECHANICAL CONDITION. THE EQUIPMENT SHALL BE AT THE
FOOTING, BEDDING MATERIAL OR PIPE CULVERT SHALL BE PLACED UNTIL THE ENGINEER HAS APPROVED THE DEPTH OF
JOBSITE SUFFICIENTLY AHEAD OF THE START OF CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS TO BE EXAMINED THOROUGHLY AND
EXCAVATION AND THE CHARACTER OF THE FOUNDATION MATERIAL.

PIPE CULVERTS. THE WIDTH OF THE PIPE TRENCH SHALL BE SUFFICIENT TO PERMIT SATISFACTORY JOINTING OF THE PIPE

AND STRUCTURAL CONSTRUCTION
UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, ALL MATERIALS BELOW SUBGRADE LEVEL IN EARTH CUTS TO A DEPTH 150 MM OR OTHER
DEPTH SHOWN ON THE PLANS OR AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER SHALL BE EXCAVATED. THE MATERIAL, IF SUITABLE, SHALL PREFORMED SPONGE RUBBER AND CORK EXPANSION JOINT FILLERS FOR CONCRETE PAVING AND STRUCTURAL
BE SET SIDE FOR FUTURE USE OR, IF UNSUITABLE, SHALL BE DISPOSED OFF IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF CONSTRUCTION SHALL CONFORM TO THE APPLICABLE REQUIREMENTS OF AASHTO M 153.
SUBSECTION 102.2.9. M. GROUTED RIPRAP

WHERE MATERIAL HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM BELOW SUBGRADE LEVEL, THE RESULTING SURFACE SHALL BE COMPACTED WHEN GROUTED RIPRAP IS SPECIFIED, STONES SHALL BE PLACED BY HAND, OR INDIVIDUALLY BY MACHINE AS SPECIFIED
TO A DEPTH OF 150 MM AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH OTHER REQUIREMENTS OF SUBSECTION 104.3.3. FOR RIPRAP PLACED ABOVE THE WATER LINE. THE SPACES BETWEEN THE STONES SHALL THEN BE FILLED WITH CEMENT
MORTAR THROUGHOUT THE THICKNESS OF THE RIPRAP AS SPECIFIED IN SUBSECTION 504.2.3, MORTAR. SUFFICIENT MORTAR
ALL MATERIALS IMMEDIATELY BELOW SUBGRADE LEVEL IN EARTH CUTS TO A DEPTH OF 150 MM, OR TO SUCH GREATER SHALL BE USED TO COMPLETELY FILL ALL VOIDS, EXCEPT THAT THE FACE SURFACE OF THE STONES SHALL BE LEFT EXPOSED.
DEPTH AS MAY BE SPECIFIED, SHALL BE COMPACTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF SUBSECTION 104.3.3.
