COMMENTS: (strengths, areas for growth, next steps):

The class and community that Keaton worked with this semester had several students who faced a wide
variety of intellectual, social and emotional challenges. Consequently, it was critical that Keaton was able to
be more than a traditional, sage-on-stage teacher, more than an educated adult disseminating information at
the front of the classroom. While he was able to do this, he was also able to do so much more. Specifically,
he strove to make meaningful connections with each student, understand them as unique individuals and
foster relationships that clearly established him as a caring and supportive adult. And he did all of this in a
completely appropriate and professional manner. Thus, every day he modeled the very best balance of a
caring, personable and professional teacher.

To advance his craft, Keaton should continue to reflect upon his assessment practices, experiment with a
variety of assessment tools, familiarize himself with significant educational documents (e.g., Growing
Success, various board-improvement plans, curriculum documents, etc.), continue to link his activities and
lessons with specific and overall expectations from the curriculum documents, create actions plans for
evolving his strengths and addressing areas that he personally feels need to be improved, consider the
specific type of educator he would ultimately like to become and then ask himself what steps he must take in
order to become that person.

Contextual or extenuating circumstances surrounding the evaluation of this teacher candidate:

Trailhead is an integrated, experiential programme run with multiple staff who are conducting numerous
experiences across any given week. Consequently, there are a lot of moving parts, a lot of shifts and updates
that happen from week to week. As a result, the teaching staff must be flexible and able to adapt to new
information and opportunities. And while this can be fine for an experienced teacher (but not for all
experienced teachers), it can definitely put a strain on a teacher candidate. Despite the additional challenge
that Trailhead represents in this respect, Keaton was successful in adjusting his plans when necessary,
sharing his teaching time and space and, simply put, working within a new system and environment to bring
the best possible version of himself to his students and fellow staff.

FACULTY ADVISOR'S OVERALL RECOMMENDATION:

Developed: Given that this is the teacher candidate's second field placement, he/she has demonstrated
competence and independence in every key area listed above
