CROCHET BABY SANDALS AND MATCHING FLOWER HAIR BAND IN 8 PLY COTTON 1
This pattern is written in English crochet pattern terminology and
provides U.S equivalents. If you have any problems you can leave a
message via ravelry. Video Tutorials are available on the various
stitches used in the pattern. These stitches can only be viewed on
the ravelry site prior to printing the pattern. Just click on the
stitch to view.
To achieve the various sizes in the Baby Sandals pattern all you need
to do is change your hook size.
The sandals illustrated are crocheted in two sizes 3 to 6 months and
6 to 9 months. The sandals can be adapted for both baby boys and
girls, they are only limited by your imagination and choice of colours.
MEASUREMENTS:
3 to 6 months = 8.5cms or 3 ¼ ins
6 to 9 months = 9cms or 3 ½ ins
MATERIALS:
No. 3 mm, ( U.S. 2/C) or 3.5 mm (U.S.4/E) crochet hook or size
suitable for tension and size of sandal required.
2.5 mm (U.S. 1/B) crochet hook for flower
Small amount of white and yellow 4ply (U.S. fingering ) cotton for flower,
50 grams 8 ply (U.S. Light Worsted) Heirloom cotton, main colour (mc)
50 grams 8ply (U.S. Light Worsted ) Heirloom cotton contrast (c)
Wool needle or bodkin, Sewing thread, Sewing needle
Sandals illustrated are of Heirloom cotton.
TENSION/GAUGE: NB
Correct tension is difficult to achieve. Your tension will determine if
you use more or less yarn and if your crochet is firm or loose.
Depending on your tension you may need to choose a slightly larger
or smaller hook.

ABBREVIATIONS
ch = chain, htr= half treble, sl st = slip stitch,
dc = double crochet, (mc) = main colour, (c) = contrast.
U.S. Substitute dc = sc., tr = dc, and htr = hdc, miss = skip (sk), sl
st = ss, tension = gauge, yoh = yo.
SOLE (make 4)
Use no. 3 mm, (U.S. 2/C) crochet hook for size 3 to 6 months
Use no. 3.5 mm, (U.S. 4/E) crochet hook for size 6 to 9 months
With (mc) make 14 ch.
ROUND 1. Htr in 3rd ch from hook, htr in next 10 ch, 6 htr in last
ch; Working the opposite side of foundation chain, 1 htr in next 10
ch, 4 htr in last ch; join with sl st in 3rdch of beginning 3ch. (32sts)
ROUND 2. Ch2, (counts as htr throughout pattern) htr in same st,
2htr in next htr, htr in next 10 htr, 2htr in next 6 htr, htr in next
10htr, 2htr in next 4htr, join with sl st in first st (44sts).
ROUND3. Ch2, htr in same stitch, 2htr in next st. htr in next 14
htr, 2htr in next 8 htr; htr in next 14 htr; 2 htr in next 6 htr; join
with sl st in first st (60 sts.) Fasten off, leaving a tail to thread
through at back of work .
ASSEMBLING SOLES:
Place the two sole pieces together with wrong sides facing, using (c)
and starting at middle of heel, sl st the 2 pieces together by
inserting hook into the top of corresponding htr on both pieces, end
in the beginning sl st . Leave enough yarn to thread through to back
of work and weave both tails through back of sl sts. (Repeat same
for second sandal).

HEEL LOOPS: (make 2)
Using (mc) and with right side of sole facing, find the middle of heel
section. Count 2 htr to the right of the middle htr and sl st through
both sole pieces passing the crochet hook through the centre of the
(c) sl sts,
ROW 1.1 sl st, 1 ch, dc in the next 4 htr, continuing through the
middle of the (c) sl st. 1 ch. turn
ROW 2. *dc 5, 1ch turn* repeat from* to * 10 times (12 rows).
Fasten off leaving a tail and thread through back of work.
To complete the loop fold in half toward the inside of sole, and
stitch with needle and cotton to its base so as the (c) trim around
the heel is visible.
TOE STRAP: (make 2)
Leaving a 6cm or 2 1/4 in tail of yarn, find the sl st at the centre of
toe and count back 8 sl sts insert hook under 8th sl st, sl st under
that sl st, 1 ch, catch the tail of yarn as you pick up the next 4 sl st
using a dc. ( 5 ) dc, 1 ch turn
ROW 1. *5 dc, ch1* repeat row 1., 14 times, fasten off leaving 15cms
or 5 3/4 ins of yarn. To attach toe strap to other side of sole, use
the 15cms of yarn to oversew, thread to the corresponding sl sts.
End off by passing yarn down through sole and between both sole
pieces, fasten off.
MAKING THE FLOWERS: (make 2)
Flower Centre:
Using 4ply (U.S. Fingering) yellow yarn and size 2.5 (U.S. 1/B)
crochet hook make 4 ch join to beginning ch with sl st. or make a slip
ring.
ROUND 1. 3 ch (this counts as 1 tr) 11 tr in 4 ch ring /or slip ring (
this gives 12 tr spaces ). Change to white 4ply (U.S. Fingering)
cotton using a sl st.

PETALS
ROUND 2. 1 dc 2 tr in 1st tr space, in 2nd tr space 2 tr and 1 sl st
(this gives you one petal), continue in this manner until you have 6
flower petals. Finish off using a sl st into beginning dc, thread yarn
through to back of work and weave through and fasten off.
FIXING THE FLOWERS:
Centre flower in the middle of Toe Strap and fix by fine stitching
around the flower centre securely several times.
ANKLE STRAPS: (make 2)
Using appropriate hook size for your shoe size and (c) yarn make 12
ch, join to beginning ch with a slip st. continue to make enough ch to
measure one and a half times the length of the sole excluding the
loop ends, make 12 additional chain sl st onto the 12th chain from the
end then sl st through all ch. Tie ends together and weave through
looped end.
FASTENING THE SANDALS:
Thread the ankle strap loop over the flower, through the heel loop
and fasten over the flower. Only one side needs to be removed to
fasten and remove the sandal.
FLOWER HAIR BAND
MATERIALS:
Elasticised lace, slightly stretched (circumference of head, with
enough left over to overlap and sew)
8 Ply yarn
Size 3mm, ( U.S 2/C) crochet hook
Hand sewing needle and sewing thread

STARTING THE FLOWER:
Using 8ply (U.S. Light Worsted) yarn and appropriate size hook
make 4 ch and join to beginning ch. with a sl st., or make a slip ring.
ROUND 1. 3 ch (this counts as 1 tr), 11 tr in 4 ch /sl ring ( this gives
12 tr spaces ) If you want the centre of the flower to be of a
different colour change your yarn now using a slip stitch.
ROUND 2. 1dc 2 tr in 1st tr space, in 2nd tr space 2 tr and 1 sl st
(this gives you one petal), continue in this manner until you have 6
flower petals. Finish off with a sl st into beginning dc, leave tail
secure the sl st by threading through to the back to of petal and
along underside of stitches. Trim loose ends.
ROUND. 3. Turn flower to wrong and using your crochet hook and
yarn pick up two of the middle vertical strands at the back of any
petal and make a sl st, make 4 ch then sl st into same place on the
next petal continue around until you have joined all the petals with 4
ch. do not break off yarn, turn your flower to the front (right side)
ROUND 4. Around the 4 chain loop, *1 dc 5 tr, 1 sl st*, repeat
from*to*and into all 4 chain loops, ( you now have a second row of 6
petals) finish row with a sl st into beginning dc, break off yarn
thread through to back of work and weave through.
ROUND 5 & 6. As rounds 3 & 4 except this time you will make 5 ch
loops and 7 tr between the dc and sl st, Finish off as for round 4.

CONSTRUCTING THE FLOWER HEADBAND

Measure elastic lace to size required and trim. With right sides of
elastic lace to outside sew together using ½ cm. or 1/4 in seam. Pin
open seam of headband to underside, of flower in the middle Stitch
using sewing thread , you will need to secure the band in the middle
both sides of the lace and twice again either side of the middle.
