PROPOSAL for the CONDUCT of the

SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY WEEK


SY 2019-2020

I. PROJECT TITLE : SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY WEEK 2019


Theme: “Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for
Sustainable Development”

II. PROPOSED DATE : July 17 – 19, 2019

III. PLACE : Legazpi City Science High School (LEGASCI)

V. RATIONALE:

Pursuant to Proclamation No. 169 of 1993, the National Science and Technology
Week (NSTW) is celebrated every third week of July of each year. For this year, NSTW aims
to showcase the DOST-developed world-class technologies, and the program and
services offered by the Department. It also seeks to gather industry experts,
representatives from the government, agriculture, communication and education
sectors, and other stakeholders. All public and private elementary and secondary
schools nationwide are invited to conduct Science fairs exhibiting results of
exploratory/investigative Science projects and inventions, Science/Math quizzes,
Science boot camps and other Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
(STEM) activities, among other activities that would inspire students to pursue careers in
Science and Technology. (DA 68, s. 2017)

With the same goal of inspiring students to do Science and providing them holistic
development and quality education, Legazpi City Science High School (LEGASCI)
Science Department will conduct its annual celebration of Science and Technology
Week. The said activity will open various opportunities for students’ application of
scientific concepts to practical life. It will provide fun-filled activities which will help
students realize that learning Science can be fun.

VI. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the activity, the participants are expected to:
a. apply their knowledge and understanding of the concepts in Science in
different events;
b. develop scientific ways of solving problems to solve real-life problems;
c. harness students’ leadership potentials to encourage vibrant and participative
student body for school and community development.

VII. GUIDELINES:
1. The Science and Technology Week shall be held for 3 days starting July 17
(Wednesday) and ends on July 19, 2019 (Friday).
2. Participants to this activity are all students, teachers and non-teaching staff of
Legazpi City Science High School.
3. The no-disruption-of-classes policy stipulated in DepEd Order No. 9, s. 2005 will be
followed during the conduct of the activity.
4. Schedule of activities shall be strictly followed for the duration of the activity (refer
to the attached schedule of activities).
5. Each grade level has an assigned activity which will take place during their
Science and Research classes on their scheduled day.
6. All Science teachers are required to supervise and ensure that the students
participate in the different events. They will serve as focal persons to assist in the
conduct of the activity.
7. Students are required to participate in the events and shall be expected to give
their best.
8. Students output in all the activities shall be credited as one Performance Task
component of their grades. Additional points shall be given to students with the
best output in each event.
