ArtGAN Content

ABOUT PROJECT
DeepArt is an online platform where users can view art generated by our state-of-the-art Artificial
Intelligence. Powered by sophisticated machine learning algorithm, this intelligence generates new art
pieces for users to view regularly. Usage data is then fed back to the model, helping the model to
generate better Art.

Note that the Art that you view on the home page refreshes every 1 hour so you can always come back
for new content!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

• How did you do this?

o The art pieces are generated using an Artificial Intelligence (AI) model, specifically a class
of Neural Network models called Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). This is the
same technology implemented by (perhaps) the more popular site:
https://www.thispersondoesnotexist.com/
• Your AI paints?!
o Yes, we house it in our dank basement where it does its magic…
o Okay, that was a joke. Nope, at least not in the traditional sense. Our AI looks at
paintings done by artists in the past, learns from them, and generates paintings based
on what it learns.
o It does work like magic though, I’m sure there’s pixie dust somewhere. 😊
• Will machines now conquer the world? Will there be Terminators?
o You wish!
o This magic that it performs may make it seem like machines are able to do what was
originally restricted to humans (like the creation of Art), but this is actually pretty far
from human intelligence. What the Intelligence does is actually pretty low level,
contrary to popular belief.
o What it does is something more like this: Intelligence borrows the humanoid figure in
Edvard Munch’s The Scream, turbulent sky of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, and the
landscape from Monet’s Poppies, and pieces them together. As a result, we have an –
arguably – original artwork generated as there has never been such an artwork done
before. After all, originality is merely undetected plagiarism, right? As we are all inspired
by others’ work in one way or another.
o The Intelligence then merely repeats this process with random paintings that we fed in
random ways, which is low level as it is up to us – Humans – to determine each piece’s
quality and value. You never know what you’re gonna get from this (black) box of
chocolates!
• Cool! Is it possible for my artwork to be part of the collection?
o Yes! Good models are built upon good data, so your data would be invaluable to us! You
may even see an art piece inspired from your artwork here from time to time!
o Note: The work has to be owned by you and come with a Creative Commons Public
Domain License (CCO) or a waiver/permission for DeepArt to use it.
• Why the 1-hour time limit?
o This keeps the artwork on the site interesting! It (literally) exhibits the temporary nature
of these one-of-a-kind AI-generated art pieces as well.
• Are the images stored? Is there any chance I may see the same artwork again?
o The images would be deleted after they have been up on the website. It is unlikely that
you would see the same artwork again due to ginormous number of possible random art
pieces that can be generated. However, you might hope for that miniscule chance that it
will appear again (however unlikely).
• I like this. How can I help?
o If you would like to support us, you can make a donation here, or share this project on
your social media! The more the merrier!
