QUARTER 1

SCHOOL: Samar National School GRADE & SEC: Grade 7 – STE Newton
TEACHER: Ira C. Montilla LEARNING AREA: Science 7
TEACHING TIME: 7:40 – 8:30 AM TEACHING DATE: July 19, 2018

I. OBJECTIVES:

A. Learning Competency

The learners should be able to distinguish mixtures from substances. (S7MT – Ie – f – 4)

B. Instructional Objectives

 To purify seawater through the process of distillation.

II. CONTENT/ TOPIC: Ways of Separating Mixtures

III. LEARNING RESOURCES:

A. Reference

1. Teacher’s Guide Pages: 23 – 25

2. Learner’s Material Pages: 21 – 24

B. Other Learning Resources:

1. Chemistry Textbook (p. 44)

IV. PROCEDURE:

A. Elicit
 How is substance different from mixture? How are they similar?
B. Engage

In the earlier grades, you experienced separating the components of a mixture. You
have done this in varied ways. Try to recall some. What are the separation techniques do
you remember? Were you also able to recall distillation and evaporation?

C. Explore
 The teacher will prepare the distillation set – up prior to the activity.
 Students will observe and perform Activity 1 entitled “SEAWATER: See Water
and Salts!”
D. Explain

1. Compare the taste of the seawater solution and the distillate. What is the
implication of this observation?
2. Why do you have to damp cold wet cloth on top of the tube?
3. What is the taste of the residue? What is this substance?

E. Elaborate

1. What are the parts of a simple distillation set – up?

2. What is distillation?
3. What are the applications of distillation?

F. Evaluate

Group output will serve as the evaluation.
