Lesson Plan in Mathematics

Senior High School Core Subjects

Statistics and Probability

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Illustrate a random variable (discrete and continuous). M11/12SP-IIIa-1
2. Distinguish between a discrete and a continuous. M11/12SP-IIIa-2

II. Subject Matter – Random Variables and Probability Distributions

References
 K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum guide for Senior High School – Core Subject p.1
 Statistics and Probability by Danilo De Guzman p.2-4

III. Procedure
A. Review of Previous Topics
What is Probability? What is Statistics?

B. Motivation
Using the printed word search, search the words that correspond to Statistics.

C. Preparation
Discuss the Qualitative and Quantitative variables. In quantitative random variable, discuss the
difference of discrete and continuous variable.

D. Presentation – Random Variables

There are two different types of random variable (Quantitative, Qualitative)
In the quantitative variable there are two different examples (continuous and discrete)

E. Discussion
Differentiate qualitative to quantitative variables. Explain to students what the examples of discrete
and continuous variables are.

F. Fixation of Skills
Classify the following variables in the table

G. Application
Relate problems to actual life situation

H. Generalization
Summarize what you have discussed for the day

IV. Evaluation:
Give a seatwork or test

V. Assignment
On the book answer p.9A

Statistics and Probability

I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Find the possible values of a random variable. M11/12SP-IIIa-3
2. Illustrates a probability distribution for a discrete random variable and its properties.
M11/12SP-IIIa-4

II. Subject Matter – Random Variables and Probability Distributions

References
 K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum guide for Senior High School – Core Subject p.1
 Statistics and Probability by Danilo De Guzman p.4-6

III. Procedure
A. Review of Previous Topics
What are the two different types of Quantitative random variables?

B. Motivation
Trick color reading – Read the words according to color not the word itself.

C. Preparation
Explain to the class the sample space and probability distribution

D. Presentation – Random variables

If a basketball team will play for 3 consecutive games, the sample space is the set of all possible
outcomes of the event. If W stands for a win and L stands for loss, make a sample space of the
result for 3 consecutive games.

E. Discussion
Illustrate on how to make the sample space and probability distribution

F. Fixation of Skills
Consider tossing a pair of unbiased coins.
a. Construct sample space
b. Assign possible values of the sample points
c. Make a probability distribution function for getting a head.

G. Application
Relate problems to actual life situation

H. Generalization
Summarize what you have discussed for the day

IV. Evaluation:
Consider tossing an unbiased coin 3 times…..
