SK CHENDERAH

Good morning to our respected judges, teachers and all my fellow friends.
Today, I would like to talk about ‘Leadership’.
Leadership plays an important role in every aspect of a student’s life. Students
go through many stages in life therefore it is important to instill confidence, and helps
children solve problems creatively, work in a team, and work collaboratively with
others.
Leadership skills allow children to have control of their lives and the ability to
make things happen and gives children many opportunities to develop responsibility.
Some people think leadership is a skill you are born with and that leaders have a
natural ability to make others follow them. Some call it charisma; others call it power
or superior social skills. When they talk, others listen and do. It is true that some
children have more skills naturally, but every child, with the right guidance, mindset,
tools and knowledge can step up and be a leader.
All children have the potential to develop leadership skills. Leadership
development can be a lifelong process. Here are some ways that may help children
develop leadership skills:
First, children learn from seeing what others do. Tell the child what you are
doing and why you are doing it. This is something that can be easy to do. Second, teach
children how to see things from another’s point of view. Good communication is a key
to being an effective leader. Teach children how to listen carefully and how to respond
to others in a calm and respectful way. Leadership involves speaking up or taking
action. Third, help children to build self-confidence. Sports are a great way to teach
confidence. Encourage them to use their leadership abilities by suggesting projects or
identifying problems that may be important to them and guide them to come up with
suggestions for actions and possible solutions.
Forth, encourage children to pursue things that interest them. They may
develop a passion for it and feel comfortable and later take on a leadership role. Fifth,
learning is all about failing along the way. Children must be reminded that failing isn't
always a bad thing as they can learn from their failures. Then, they will feel much
more empowered about their life.
The true leader is someone who earns respect and inspires others to follow his
footsteps. Leaders are those people who set certain benchmarks and try to achieve
those benchmarks by allowing people to judge them according to their actions.
There is an old-saying which is, “To be first in place, one must be first in merit
as well.” Thus, an individual actually becomes a leader when he/she has the ability to
lead mankind on the path of progress without any selfish reason.
Thank You!
